FOR two minutes Mount Pleasant players thought they had pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Heathcote District Football League history.As the final siren sounded at Toolleen on Saturday, the scoreboard showed that bottom side Mount Pleasant was one point in front of top side Heathcote, which has won the past two premierships and was riding a state-best 28-game winning streak.The Blues’ jubilation quickly turned to disbelief when the goal umpires confirmed the scoreboard was one point out and the result was a draw, 13.8 (86) to 12.14 (86).“We thought we’d won the game,” Mounts coach Denis Grinton said.“We thought we were a point up ... we’d been holding play up a bit and the ball was in our forward line when the siren went.“When you think you win you celebrate, but it soon went to an empty feeling.“To draw against a quality side like Heathcote was a great effort, but obviously we’d rather have the win.”Saturday’s performance by Mounts came seven days after they lost to perennial wooden spooners Huntly.“It just shows how much this game is played between your ears,” Grinton said.“We’ve played some really good footy at times this year, but we’ve dropped away quickly as well.“Against Heathcote we stuck at it all day and the boys showed they can compete against good sides.”Heathcote looked set for victory when it grabbed a 17-point lead midway through the final quarter.But three quick goals to Mounts put the home side in front.A late point to Heathcote tied the scores, unbeknown to both sides.The Saints remain half a game clear on top of the ladder, but Lockington-Bamawm United looms as a major threat.LBU coach Kahl Oliver bagged 12 goals and regining Cheatley medallist Adrian Dohnt kicked six goals in a best on ground performance as the Cats thumped Leitchville-Gunbower by 149 points on Saturday.The Bombers were competitive in the first half, but LBU hit top gear in the second half kicking 19 goals to three.North Bendigo recovered from a first quarter scare to defeat Huntly by 15 goals.Fresh from their first win of the season, the Hawks jumped North in the first quarter to lead by 23 points.The final three quarters was one-way traffic as North piled on 24 goals to seven to win 27.23 (185) to 15.5 (95).The Bulldogs had 12 individual goalkickers, with Ryan Alford kicking four in a best on ground performance.White Hills retained third place on the ladder with a comfortable 38-point win over Colbinabbin.Former South Bendigo duo Eddie Dickins and Gavin Bowles led the way for the Demons in their 15.10 (100) to 8.14 (62) win.Sam Hill played a lone hand for Colbo kicking six of his side’s eight goals.
