FORMER Bendigo Football-Netball League Rising Star winner Billy Mahony is among the latest trio of signings for Mount Pleasant.
Blues coach Darren Walsh confirmed the signing of on-baller Mahony on Wednesday, while Mount Pleasant has also added Cody Green from Eaglehawk and has Joseph Whiting returning to the club following a two-year stint in the Amateurs.
Mahony has spent the past two years playing with Kyneton, while he previously won the BFNL’s Rising Star in 2014 when he was at Maryborough.
“Billy is one of those tough, in-and-under midfielders who is a quality player as shown by winning the Bendigo league Rising Star a few years ago,” Walsh said.
“We’re looking forward to him bringing that toughness he plays with.”
Whiting rejoins the Blues after playing the past two seasons with Prahran Assumption in the Victorian Amateur Football Association.
“It’s great to have Joey back… he’s a tough utility player who will probably play quite a bit off half-back for us,” Walsh said.
“He’s coming back as a one-pointer, so that’s always handy.”
Green joins the Blues after kicking 51 goals for the Eaglehawk reserves last year.
“He’s a strong leading forward and a long kick who we’ll probably play deep in our forward line,” Walsh said.
Green is the second forward addition for the Blues this off-season, with Daniel Davie from Kyneton likely to play at centre half-forward.
Walsh also expects the return of Luke Marchesi after playing just three games last year before hip surgery to add extra strength to the forward line, which will again feature X-factor Ben Weightman.
The Blues’ recruiting has also secured Bryce Hinneberg from Kyneton and Zebb Murrell returning from Strathfieldsaye as the former power club of the Heathcote District league strives to make finals for the first time since 2014.
The Blues will play Moama and Wedderburn in practice matches ahead of the 2019 season.
