Mt Pleasant Football-Netball Club, which uses the ground for home games in the Heathcote and District Football League, will contribute the remaining $30,000 to the project, having already received an $8000 community grant from Campaspe Shire.
Councillor Frank Oliver said at council’s meeting upgrades to the Toolleen oval were well overdue.
‘‘This group (Toolleen Recreation Reserve committee) has tried hard over the years to improve their facilities and the netball facilities at Toolleen are well beyond frail,’’ he said.
‘‘If we can achieve this funding it will really improve it and amount to it being used more and hopefully to host some of the more important games.’’
The present change rooms are unsuitable due to the fact that they have only cold water plumbing in one change-room and no plumbing at all in the other.
There is also significant structural damage from white ant intrusion and the recent mouse plague.
Should the grant application be successful, the change rooms will be demolished and re-built.
Council anticipates the upgrade to the change-rooms for players and umpires will provide improved facilities which will help to maintain participation in sport and recreation in this locality.
Successful grant applicants will be announced in August or September.
