MOUNT Pleasant coach Anthea Griffen believes her team will go into Saturday’s preliminary final with North Bendigo as underdogs.
The Blues have won their first two finals, defeating Lockington and White Hills, and are now eyeing a spot in the Heathcote and District Netball Association grand final.
“We have taken a lot of confidence out of our first two finals,” Griffin said.
“The team hasn’t played a lot of netball together as a settled unit due to injuries this year, so to get a couple of games and some wins under our belt has been great.
“We are the underdogs this week, so it’s nice to go into this game with the pressure off us, we are really looking forward to the challenge.”
Griffen said being able to settle quickly would be key to a strong start.
“In our past two finals we have played our style of netball,” she said.
“We aren’t flashy, we just play the ball, have stuck to our game plan, and its pleasing that we have got the results.”
This season North Bendigo has beaten Mount Pleasant twice, by a combined total of three goals.
“North will be a really tough match up and we will need to be at our best across the court,” Griffen said.
“We will be aiming to shut down the mid-court supply into the North goals ring, and we will be relying on a big performance from our goalers to convert any extra opportunities we get in attack.”
“I’m sure both teams will be throwing everything into this game for a chance to play in the grand final, so I expect it to be a really good match.”
The North Bendigo versus Mount Pleasant preliminary will be played at the Elmore Recreation Reserve at 3pm.
