Golden City Cup
The Huntly and North Bendigo Football Clubs are old rivalries from back in the day when they both played in the Golden City Football League (GCFL).
This league was dismantled in 1981 some 29 years ago!
The two Clubs now play in the Heathcote District Football Netball League. Over the years there has been quite a number of footballers and some netballers that have played at both clubs.
To celebrate this rivalry and the history the two clubs shared, Huntly approached Nth Bendigo with the idea of perpetuating the old Golden City League. In 2004 the Golden City Cup was created named after the Golden City League that the two clubs had previously played in.
Each year on a rotating basis each Club takes it in turn to host the match. (Usually the first game they play against each other for the season, home team hosts.)
There is also a medal awarded to the Best on Ground and the Best on Court.
The Talbot / Robertson Medal is named after the two families who have made significant contribution to their respective clubs. Talbots (Huntly) and Robertson (Nth Bendigo). Awarded to the best on ground as judged by the umpires.
The Hayes / Simpson Medal named after Cheryl Hayes (nee Murley) (Huntly) and Dianne Simpson (North Bendigo) who were both instrumental in the establishment of netball for both Huntly and North Bendigo back in the 80’s.
