A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CLUB
The Heathcote Football Netball Club was formed early in 1967 when the two old rival clubs: North Heathcote and South Heathcote, merged to become one club.
The St Kilda jumper was adopted because it retained the black and white colours of South Hetahcote and the red and black colours of North Heathcote. Both North and South had been very successful clubs in the HDFL, winning a combined 19 premierships and being runners up a combined 19 times between 1922 and 1966.
The Reverend Dennis Oakley (the brother of former AFL Chief Ross Oakley) was appointed the first senior coach and the seniors drew the Grand Final, only to be beaten in the replay by old rivals Mt. Pleasant.
The A Grade netball side (Heathcote's first team) were successful in winning the premiership in 1967. The A reserve side were premiers the following year.
The club celebrated fifty years with a reunion dinner and a book highlighting the club's history [From a Town Divided to a Club United] was launched. Copies can be purchased from the club for $50.
