Senior Football
Last Saturday was another challenging game for the Tatura senior team against Mooroopna, who are travelling very nicely. After a strong showing the week before, the boys were keen to get over the line this week.
The game started well, with Tatura getting the first couple of scores on the board. It was a very even first quarter but Mooroopna came back late with a couple of goals to go in at quarter time about even.
Paul Kirby showed some good form over all four quarters and was the major scorer for the Bulldogs. Brendan Keast also returned to top form, with four quarters of hard running football.
The second, third and last quarters were all of a similar vein with neither side able to get a decent break on the other.
Chris Ryan put together one of his best games for a while and had the ball on a string down back, dominating his opponent all day.
The end saw a very tight finish, with Tatura holding a small lead late in the game. However, the opponents scored a late goal to get over the line by five points. A disappointing finish to a very good game.
It was good to see Bill Hicks, Josh Harris and Tom Sullivan’s positive form continue this week.
After the game, Coach Paul said to have to close losses in a row could be seen as a negative but the reality is that the two sides we played are ‘one’ and ‘three’ on the ladder, so it shows we are close to that level.
“We just need to start getting four points on the board. Its important to move on and focus on the next game as that is where we can redeem ourselves in the best way,” he said.
After the bye weekend, we play Seymour at their home ground.
Final Scores: Tatura 16, 7103 to Mooroopna 14, 24 108
Reserves
The reserves match this week started really well, once again. The boys really got out of the blocks and showed how they can play.
A good break at quarter time looked positive for the boys. Shane Witham, Mark Eaton and James Walters were all playing well and giving the forwards opportunities to score. In his first game back for the year, Antonio Borelli scored two goals early before getting injured in a solid clash.
After half time, it was as if a different side came to play with Mooroopna; getting the ball down to their forwards too often which had the backline under pressure. Shaun Rennie, John Davison and Sam Green all tried hard in defense and around the ground but, in the end, the boys couldn’t get the scores on the board and that was the ball game.
Well done to Jake Rennie on his very good game after playing U/18s in the morning; he showed plenty of energy and took a couple of very nice grabs.
Coach Brendan Vanderdonk pointed out, after the game, that the match came down to the fitness of a number of players, which left the bulk of the work to a few rather than the whole team.

Under 18s
The U/18s were back full of fight this week after a narrow loss last game. Coach Mark Rijs has them playing a very good brand of football. They started very well once again, getting early scores on the board.
Daniel Johnstone was on the board early and, along with Thomas Miller and Jayden Young, provided problems for their opponents up forward.
Jonathon Coe put in another very strong game in the middle; he would have to be the most consistent player this year.
Ben Twynstra, and Ben Lolicato both played well down back again. Nic Elliott put in his best game for the year on the wing.
The game was a real four-quarter contest that came right down to the wire. The last quarter saw Tatura push forward on a number of occasions but they couldn’t score a goal. A couple of late goals to Mooroopna saw scores level with only seconds to go. A mark on the siren saw the opposition score a goal after the siren to win the game. It doesn’t get much closer than that! It was a very entertaining game, and the boys are still improving, so come down and have a look at the future stars running around.
With the efforts the boys are putting in at training, a win is just around the corner.

Once again it was disappointing all around but there are plenty of positives to be found; the teams just need to get back that winning feeling.
