Over the past one hundred years, several thousand players have played football for the Seymour Football Club. Selecting the Team of the Century was always going to be a difficult assignment.
The team selected will always be contentious and in question by some. While we don't expect this side to settle any arguments, we believe it could start a few.
To help with the selection, Club Secretary Gary Brown was asked by the Seymour Football Club Reunion Committee to chair the selection panel. Ten long-standing people associated with the club in different eras (all of whom wish to remain anonymous), were then asked to submit their teams. Four declined the offer; six submitted their squads.
The criteria for selection included stipulations that players played at least 40 senior games; the side had to be picked on team equality with all players playing within strict limitations of their playing day positions.
It's unfortunate that some noteworthy players missed out on selection, but it's impossible to fit a list of 70 nominated players into a 24 player team.
It is the opinion of the selectors that every player who has represented the Seymour Football Club is valued for the contribution they have made to the success of the Club.
