Mick McFarlane - Essendon

Previous Clubs: Coburg/Euroa

Michael McFarlane was a full-back from Coburg who was 27 years old when he made his senior debut.

He played 11 games for Essendon in in 1936 and early 1937.

Prior to Coburg, he had played with Euroa and earlier still in 1926 with North Melbourne Seconds.

McFarlane lacked pace and agility, but managed to carve out a 43-game career with North Melbourne between 1937 and 1940.

He served with the RAAF in New Guinea and the Islands in World War II and played with the services.

McFarlane took up umpiring in the Mornington Peninsula League on his return.

He was licensee of the Bayview Hotel at Kensington for many years before he retired.

He died on12th October, 1981, at the age of 75.

From those "in the know", Dick was heralded as the next big thing on his arrival at Victoria Park. He made an immediate impact before suffering a badly broken leg which basically meant the end of his VFL career.

These days a player would be able to recover from such an injury but Dick unfortunately played in an era were that was not possible.

He headed back to the bush where he became Euroa Football Club's best known player and coach and is to this day revered as being the head of Euroa's most successful era.

Les Reed - Geelong

Reed was a utility player recruited from Euroa.

He came off the bench as a reserve in Geelong's 1951 premiership side and played as a wingman when they lost the 1953 Grand Final to Collingwood.

Don Gross - Essendon

Don Gross was a handy rover and wingman who lacked that yard of pace which would have made him a real star. He was fairly strong and a good left-foot kick. He came to Essendon as an outstanding schoolboy from Euroa.

He was third in Essendon's Best and Fairest award in 1971. He was also the third top goalkicker in that year.

Gross was unlucky to miss selection in the 1965 premiership team when he broke his collarbone in the preliminary final, he was then a reserve in the losing 1968 Grand Final side which went down to Carlton by only 3 points.

He won Essendon's best team man award in 1970.

Gross became captain-coach of Essendon Reserves in 1974 and he later coached the U19s from 1977 to 1980. Since then, he has coached school squads for Essendon.

He is active in the Essendon Past Players and Offiicials Association.

Hayden Lamaro - Melbourne

Hayden debuted for Euroa as a 16 year old against Lemnos in late 1995 and immediately showed his ability to get plenty of the football and deliver it exceptionally well with a lethal left foot.

He played out the year in the seniors and in 1996 he played the year with Murray Bushrangers, being selected in the Vic Country Under 18 side during the year and eventually being drafted at pick 31??? for Melbourne.

Lamaro had an injury interupted first season but debuted in Round 1 1998, and played 2 games for the Demons that year.

He returned to Euroa the following year.

Rory Hilton - Brisbane/Richmond

Rory played all his junior football at Euroa winning multiple best and fairests before his family moved to Wodonga.

Drafted by Brisbane in 1996 after being a star player for Murray Bushrangers he had to sit out the 1997 season after a knee reconstruction before making his debut in 1998.

In 1999 Rory moved to Richmond and played some very good football, including playing in a preliminary final in 2001. Hilton fought a constant battle with injury before finishing in 2005 and returned to play senior football with Euroa in 2006.

Andrew Mills - Richmond

Drafted to Richmond Football Club at pick 52 in the 1999 AFL National Draft, Mills played 14 games for the Tigers from 2000 to 2003 kicking 5 goals in an injury plagued career.

After an initial setback where medical staff found a broken scafoid early into pre-season in 1999, Andrew broke into the Richmond senior side early in 2000 after only 2 reserves matches. He had an impressive first game, collecting 14 possessions and kicking a late goal in Richmond's narrow loss to Fremantle at Docklands Stadium.

After 3 games he was suspended for two matches for striking Sydney's Brad Seymour before breaking a scafoid upon resumption and missed the rest of his debut season.

Breaking back into the side in 2001 he strung together 5 games, missing selection in their finals campaign, and notched another 5 games in 2002. His last year was again injury interupted, with continual hamstring problems before playing in the last game of the year.

Mills played the following year at Sandringham, before heading to to the west to play with East Perth in the WAFL.

Jamie Elliott - Collingwood

Drafted to Collingwood in 2011 after Greater Western Sydney pre-listed him and then was on-traded to Collingwood.

Jamie made his debut in Round 7 2012 and to date has played 7 games in a row, highlighted by his sensational last quarter against West Coast where he took three contested marks and kept the Magpies in the game. Despite not being overly tall Jamie is a terrific contested mark which will stand him in good stead at league level.

Elliott is a ferocious tackler and made 15 tackles against Fremantle which included a record 10 inside 50 tackles.

Prior to being drafted, Jamie played his junior football at Euroa before graduating to the Senior side in 2009 and helping a mini revival where the Magpies won 4 of their last 5 games including two upset victories against finalists Seymour and Mooroopna. He then played with the Murray Bushrangers in 2010 and as an over age player in 2011 due to missing a large part of 2010 with hamstring problems.

Jamie represented Victoria Country at the 2011 Australian Under 18 Championships and starred in the first game against Tasmania before he was cruelly injured playing back at Euroa the following week against Tatura and suffered a shattered collarbone.

Rather than giving up on his dream of playing AFL, Jamie didn't sulk at all and as soon as he was able to began the hard work of getting his fitness levels up to the appropriate level prior to draft camp. He was duly rewarded for his efforts by being picked up by Collingwood and to date has really showed he has the ability to be a long term AFL player.

Jamie has been impressive early in 2013, kicking 5 goals in a best on ground performance against Carlton in Round 2.

Will Hayes - Western Bulldogs

Drafted by Western Bulldogs at the 2018 National Draft.

Will has played in 2 VFL premierships with Footscray since debuting in 2014 in the same year he made his senior Euroa debut.

Will made his senior AFL debut against Carlton in Round 5 2019 compiling 21 disposals in a very promising start.
