It is believed that the Ultima Football team first played in the red and black colours worn by the Essendon Football Team. Ultima played against small local communities such as Goshen.
Ultima's league games began around 1910 when they took past in a "Down the Line League against such teams as Lalbert, Metian, Waitchie, Chinkapokk and possibly Manangatang. In 1919 the Ultima Football team won their first Premiership Flag. In 1924 Ultima were runners up in this competition.
In 1930 Ultima entered the Swan Hill District Football League and in that year they went through the season undefeated, the only time that this has occurred within that league. In 1933 Ultima switched over to the L.M.N.D.F.A (Lalbert Manangatang Nothern District Football Association) as well as switching over their colors to St. Kilda colours of red, white and black. Ultima played in this league until 1940 when the league went into recess due to the war.
The club reformed in 1946 and until 1953 played in the Mid Murray League. In 1954 the club then moved into the Tyrrell league in which during the time in this league won three Premiership Flags. The Tyrrell league was disbanded in 1979 which saw Ultima move over to the K.D.F.L.
In 1979 and 1980 botht the Thirds and the Seniors missed out on the finals, the Seconds won their Grand Final against Wakool but were defeated in 1980 in a GF rematch.1981 swa the Ultima Seniors take the Premiership flag, some 48 years since their last flag, was cause for celebration.
