MURRABIT UNDER 17's
PREMIERS 2005
The future looks bright for the Murrabit Football Club after their Under 17's finished a dominant season, claiming the premiership with a comfortable 64-point win over Wakool.
As was the case in the senior game, the young Blues got off to the best possible start, kicking five goals in the opening term while restricting their opposition to a single behind.
It was a dominant display from Murrabit, who never let their rivals back into the game.
The Blues' intensity and desperation had the Wakool side unbalanced in the first few minutes of the game, and they were able to convert this ascendency into goals.
Murrabit's Jordan Hayes was a key forward in the first term charge, kicking three goals and looking very dangerous around the loose ball.
Murrabit 5.1
Wakool 0.1
Leading by five goals at the first change, Murrabit continued to apply pressure in the second term. The Hawks responded to some extent but were largely out-gunned around the ground.
Great defensive work from Leigh McDonald, Joel Handcock and Ryan Vehlen kept the Wakool forwards accountable, and went a long way to restricting them to just two goals for the quarter - an improvement on the first term but not enough to close the gap.
Murrabit kicked three goals for the term including a great snap from Damien Hirst to increase their lead to 32 points at half-time.
Murrabit 8.2
Wakool 2.4
Wakool needed to mount an immediate, concerted attack in the opening minutes of the third term but it was Murrabit who found the goals.
Hayes booted his fourth major for the match which was quickly followed by another from Ryan Micallef and it was hard to see how the Hawks were going to find a way back into the match.
Reagan Hamilton did eventually kick truly for the Hawks - their only score for the quarter - but the Blues slammed on two more goals in response, a clear message that they were not going to be denied.
Murrabit 11.5
Wakool 3.4
The three-quarter time margin was 49 points in favour of the Blues, a comfortable margin, but they continued to attack hard in the final term, even as the Hawks' resolve faded under the weight of such a large deficit, dwindling time and player fatigue.
More Murrabit goals followed as the match wound down, including a great show of strength from Kieran Thorne, as the Blues stormed home to take the flag in the most emphatic style.
Murrabit 14.9 (93)
Wakool 4.5 (29)
