Werribee Centrals Netballers had some good results this week against Inverleigh in the GDFNL. All the senior grades had strong wins bt the U 17 girls came up against the top undefeated team and found it hard to make any impression on the ladder leaders.
A Grade
Werribee Centrals 64 v. Inverleigh 17
Werribee Centrals had a strong start to the game this week with the goalers making the most of their shots and shooting at 100% accuracy. Ashlee Depetro played a brilliant game in defense and combined well with Jackie McCauley. Werribee Centrals centre court pressure is continuing to be a driving force through the middle of the court, creating and making the play. Mickayla Ward stepped out of goals and into the WA position in the second half and proved to be a major problem for Inverleigh. Centrals A Grade took out each quarter with no real pressure from the opposition. Coach Kristy Krywula was able to try out a few different positional combinations today so that Werribee Centrals A Grade will be well and truly ready for the finals series.
Best: Ashlee Depetro, Mickayla Ward, Aysha Ward
B Grade
Werribee Centrals 40 v. Inverleigh 25
Some great passages of play from the defence all the way to the attackers. Werribee Centrals goaling combination in Renee Digiocchino & Amanda Nielson shot consistently all game in tough and windy conditions. Centre court moved the ball really well down the court and into Centrals goalers. Centrals defence Leigh Stewart & Amanda Wilson worked hard all game creating many turnovers and were able to keep Inverleigh's shots at goal to a bare minimum.
Best: Leigh Stewart, Emma Maycock, Renee Digiocchino
C Grade
Werribee Centrals 41 v. Inverleigh 17
A fantastic start to the game today with all seven players on the court coming out firing. Some great goaling by Ellie Tubbs & Melinda Dobai helped Centrals C Grade take the early lead. Some strong defensive pressure by Brooke Short and Alison Ashley kept the Inverleigh goalers well and truly under control, Inverleigh scoring only 2 goals in the 1st quarter. During the 2nd quarter with a few sloppy passes by Werribee Centrals this allowed Inverleigh to come back into the game but with Centrals great defensive pressure all over the court they found it hard to remain in touch. Stacey Flack (WD) had a great game putting lots of pressure on her opponent. All in all a strong game from start to finish with all seven players on the court giving it their all.
Best: Brooke Short, Alison Ashley, Melinda Dobai
D Grade
Werribee Centrals 68 v. Inverleigh 4
Centrals came out determined and played that way to the final whistle. Jacinta Mesman played an awesome game this week in the WA position feeding Centrals goalers fast and accurately. Centrals Goalers Shanade Tronson, Kelly Schicker & Katherine Travers all shot well. Katherine going into goals in the final quarter to shoot eight goals. Olivia-Kate Burrow stepped up from the U17's to help out in the (C) position and provided plenty of drive down the court and proved herself to be very worthy in D Grade. Centrals won each quarter with ease proving to be too strong all over the court for Inverleigh.
Best: Jacinta Mesman, Shanade Tronson, Katelin Genge
U17's
Werribee Centrals 30 v. Inverleigh 13
This was not a good day for the Werribee Centrals U17's. With not much drive no leads, Centrals U17's found it hard to create space and were unable to move the ball down the court into their attacking end. Centrals started off flat and finished in the same way. Olivia-Kate Burrow (C) tried her best all game but with not much back-up down the court. Tayla Smith (GS) stepped up from the U15's to help out in goals, Tayla proving to be one of Centrals best. Centrals defense in Lauren Ewen put in 100% but in the end Inverleigh just wanted the ball more than Centrals did. Centrals U17's will need to re-group at training this week to come out strong and dominant against 2nd on the ladder Corio.
Best: Olivia-Kate Burrow, Tayla Smith, Lauren Ewen
U15's
Werribee Centrals 23 v. Inverleigh 24
Another good game by the U15 girls with only the bare 7 players it was a determined U15's from the 1st whistle. Centrals U15's played some tight netball against 3rd on the ladder Inverleigh. Centrals defense Janelle Bragg & Kayla Govan worked hard all game proving to be a great defensive combination. Emily Ashley (GS) helped out in goals this week and proved to be one of Centrals best on court. Sarah Hounsell (WA) was dominant in the centre court and never gave up all game. With some good standard netball played it was down to the final few seconds when Inverleigh just scored the winning goal. A tremendous effort by all 7 players again this week and Coach Hailey Sildatke is very happy with the way this newly recruited U15's are performing each Saturday. Training is definitely paying off and the team just improves from week to week with every U15 player is 100% committed.
Best: Sarah Hounsell, Kayla Govan, Emily Ashley.
