Werribee Centrals A, B & C Grades had three wins with D Grade having a draw with the another of the top teams in East Geelong. The U15's beat the top side by one goal as this side improves each week. The matches were of a good class considering the cold and very windy conditions.
A Grade
Werribee Centrals 43 v. East Geelong 16
After a slow start Centrals A Grade took control in every part of the court. Centrals defence was awesome and Centrals were dangerous throughout the mid court and created space quite easily. Centrals Goalers Mickayla Ward, Ashya Ward and Jenni Gardner all shared the workload in the goal circle with all three goalers shooting well in tough conditions. Centrals A Grade moved the ball around well and with some direct passing created many opportunities and came away with a good win.
Best: Danni Stewart, Ashlee Depetro, Jackie McCauley
B Grade
Werribee Centrals 26 v. East Geelong 18
In very windy conditions Centrals centre court played controlled netball with Emma Maycock & Michelle Watson dominating the centre court. In a low scoring game it was Millie Hudson (GK/GD) who had a great game in defence with strong hands and her rebounding was excellent. Goalers had a difficult time with the wind but were able to convert some good goals considering the conditions. A bit disappointing to win by only 8 goals but Centrals B Grade were able to try a few new things that they had been working on at training. Centrals B Grade were missing a couple of key players this week Leigh Stewart & Amy Giaini but with the versatility of this side were able to come away with the 4 points.
Best: Millie Hudson, Emma Maycock, Michelle Watson
C Grade
Werribee Centrals 33 v. East Geelong 12
Centrals C Grade had a good start to the game scoring some quick goals to take an early lead. Ellie Tubbs (GS) was in fine form shooting 26 goals for the game. Centrals defence all worked hard to keep the opposition's score to a minimum. Centrals centre court put on the pressure down the court causing the opposition to make some mistakes. Centrals C Grade took advantage of East Geelong's errors and were happy to come away with a well deserved win.
Best: Ellie Tubbs, Alison Ashley, Emma Fitzgerald
D Grade
Werribee Centrals 25 v. East Geelong 25
In a tightly fought out contest against 3rd on the ladder Werribee Centrals defence worked hard to keep East Geelong's shots at goal to a minimum. Roslyn Clay played a good first half to help keep Centrals in the game. Centrals 3rd quarter let them down with some bad passing and silly mistakes allowing East Geelong to creep back into the game. The final quarter proved to work for Centrals with Melissa Bragg working hard in defence and Jacinta Mesman moving into the WA position as Centrals were able to make a couple of turnovers and in the final few seconds convert one of these turnovers into a goal with Centrals collecting 2 points for the draw.
Best: Roslyn Clay, Melissa Praed, Jacinta Mesman
U15
Werribee Centrals 19 v. East Geelong 18
In a thriller of a game against top of the ladder East Geelong it was the Werribee Centrals U15 girls that were determined to win this one. Centrals won the first half and had a three goal lead going into the 3rd quarter. Tayla Smith (GA) played a blinder today scoring 14 goals for the game and also playing a quarter in defence. Centrals 3rd quarter let them down with no leads, no driving and players not adjusting to the umpires meant that East Geelong were back in the game and had taken a 2 goal lead. Centrals final quarter was the best with Tayla Smith back in goals with some strong drives by Sarah Hounsell (C) and some accurate feeding into Centrals goalers Centrals U15's were able to score some crucial goals and come away with the hard earned 4 points.
Best: Tayla Smith, Sarah Hounsell, Emily Ashley
This week Centrals travel to Inverleigh and the U 17s will be looking forward to their game against the ladder leaders.
