In what was the matches of the round in Geelong District Netball last year Grand Finalists Werribee Centrals & Thomson came face to face for the first time this season. Also these two teams are also filling the top two positions in B & C Grade as well, so it was going to be close all day. The netballers are also excited as their new courts at Galvin Park started construction this week as well thanks to contributions from Wyndham Council, AFL, Victorian State Govt and the club.

Werribee Centrals 33 v Thomson 26
Werribee had been looking forward to playing Thomson having lost to them last year in the grand final. It was a close first quarter but Werribee went into the second quarter with a small lead which they later built on. Werribee stuck to their game plan which was to use all nine players to ensure a fit side all day. With Casey Price side-lined with an ankle injury Werribee Centrals used Hailey Sildatke in defence alongside Jackie McCauley and Jackie played her best game so far this season. Centrals defence proved to be too strong for the Thomson goalers and Centrals overall court pressure and fast attacking moves proved to be too much for the Thomson side. Coach Kristy Krywula was very happy with the way all nine players rotated the bench and with their ability to play their position at their best today. Danni Stewart had a field day controlling the centre court alongside her team mates who backed her 100%.
Best: Jackie McCauley, Hailey Sildatke, Danni Stewart
B Grade
Werribee Centrals 26 v. Thomson 23
In another close encounter B Grade were looking forward to the challenge and were not disappointed with the standard of the competition. In terrible weather conditions, Centrals B Grade played a controlled game all day. Centrals defence Leigh Stewart (GD) played another outstanding game against tough opposition and Natalie Ramsdale (C) was also one of Centrals best this week. Against a rough opposition Centrals B Grade stuck to their game plan and came away with the well deserved four points.
Best: Leigh Stewart, Natalie Ramsdale, Amanda Nielson
C Grade
Werribee Centrals 24 v. 14
Another slow start for the Werribee Centrals C Grade this week. Some sloppy passes letting the Centrals girls down early but they fought hard in the 2nd quarter with Melanie Cuthbert coming on into the Centre position helping to settle the team down. Centrals C Grade defence were just too strong against the Thomson goalers with Brooke Short once again proving her worth in the C Grade side.
Best: Brooke Short, Melanie Cuthbert, Emma Fitzgerald
D Grade
Werribee Centrals 35 v. Thomson 11
It was Centrals all the way from start to finish. Centrals welcome back Melissa Praed who has been sideline with an injury. Jacinta Mesman & Melissa Praed worked well together in defence for Centrals C Grade keeping Thomson's shots at goals to a minimum. Katherine Travers worked hard all game in the centre position and Katelin Genge did everything asked of her today. Centrals D Grade won each quarter with ease and will face top of the ladder side Belmon Lions next week.
Best: Jacinta Mesman, Melissa Praed, Katherine Travers
U17
Werribee Centrals 27 v. Thomson 7
Centrals Under 17's came out firing this week taking the first quarter with ease. Melissa Bragg played a blinder in defence and was one of Centrals best this game. Centrals defender Bethany Lipscombe (GK) worked hard alongside Melissa Bragg and they together kept Thomson's goalers at bay. A great team effort with all players playing at their best.
Best: Melissa Bragg, Clarissa Melilli, Susan Dilisio
This Saturday Centrals are again at the Recreation Centre in Ballan Road against Belmont and these games should also be worth watching.
