Werribee Centrals played their second game at Galvin Park for the season on Saturday against Winchelsea in what was seen as a test against a similar side both in size and ability based around past results this season. Centrals with three wins now wanted to ensure they also won this one and give them a chance to remain in contact with the leaders in the GDFL.
Centrals started well with a quick goal to Trent Cole who has been very consistent since coming into the seniors and with another to Anthony Kitchen straight after Centrals had the start they wanted. Centrals were winning the centre bounces through Craig Hardingham who was on top and with the pressure being placed by Centrals around the ball carrier it was giving the smaller running players many chances to move the ball forward. The pressure from both sides was creating many fumbles and turnovers but it was Centrals who were putting the pressure on via the scoreboard as they led by six goals at quarter time.
Anthony Kitchen who always makes it hard for his backman created a goal out of nothing to kick start the second and with goals to Brendan Chugg and Dean Cachia Centrals had pushed out to a good lead. The highlight of the quarter was the strong marking of young Dean Cachia who has now settled into the Centrals senior side up forward and gives them a real focal point.
After the main break it was all Winchelsea who showed they would not lie down and they outscored Centrals in this term with the aid of the strong breeze. They were far more desperate and were first to the ball as they outran Centrals for the quarter. Centrals defense held tight with the likes of David Kennedy, David Todaro, Ryan Cornish and Laurence Langfield who all played well to keep Winchelsea out and help to maintain the lead Centrals had.
Just like last week Centrals in the last quarter kicked ten goals as Winchelsea had no answer to Centrals running of the ball forward at all costs. Two snaps from Trent Cole, goals to David Leatch and three to Anthony Kitchen ensured the big win even though Winchelsea were able to kick two late goals.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 25.7 - 157 to Winchelsea 9.6 - 60

The unbeaten Centrals Reserves also played Winchelsea and quickly got on the board through some unselfish work from Dean Giarrusso to allow Dale Collins to goal. This was to be the pattern all day as this Centrals side continue to use and share the ball well as they run opposition teams of their feet. The likes of Matt Deluca Jamie Cowlishaw Damian Galle and Jack O Brien all were influential in pushing the ball forward at all times which allows Centrals forwards so much use of the football and enables big scores to be kicked week in week out.
Captain Grant Cooke was also a pivotal player at half forward and gave the team a strong avenue to goal all day. The only downside to the win was the windy conditions which did not allow either side to play pretty football resulting in a scrambly affair for some parts of the game. This did not deter the players from backing themselves and running hard at the ball though. In a very uneven game Centrals ran out strong winners to remain undefeated.

Centrals U 18s after a fright last week wanted to get back and play some decent football which they know they can. Even though Winchelsea were short on numbers the game was contested well but Winchelsea had no answers for the strong Werribee side who ran out easy winners by 119 points.

Centrals play top team Bannockburn at Galvin Park and again will need to put 100 minutes of intense football if they are to match it with the ladder leaders.
