Werribee Centrals in 2009 will have A, B, C & D Grade sides as well as U 15 & U 17 Junior grades in competition the Geelong & District Netball Comps this season.
After being beaten in last years Grand Final Centrals have recruited well in all grades and are looking forward to the new season with a lot of anticipation and being able to welcome many new faces into the club.
U15
Werribee Centrals 23 lost to East Geelong 33
Against last year's premiers Centrals newly formed U15's put on a good show in the first 3 quarters. Centrals goaling combination of Kimberley Genge & Kayla Govan worked well together to gain possession and shoot some accurate goals. Janelle Bragg (GK) gave 100% all game and Tayla Smith was easily the stand-out for Centrals U15's - never giving in and working hard to claim rebounds off any mis-shots from the East Geelong's goalers and providing plenty of drive down the court. Centrals U15's all worked well together but in the last quarter East Geelong just seemed to do no wrong. Centrals found it hard to keep up the pace and allowed East Geelong to run away with the points in the end.
Best: Tayla Smith, Janelle Bragg, Sarah Hounsell
D Grade
Werribee Centrals 26 to East Geelong 27
Centrals newly formed D Grade started off well all over the court. Shanade Tronson had a great game in goals for Centrals D Grade. Centrals welcome back Jacinta Mesman who had a great game in defence as well and it was a good standard of netball with all players on court giving their best. In the final quarter Centrals were level with East Geelong with less than a minute to go but a few bad passes and Centrals D Grade playing some uncontrolled netball enabled East Geelong to claim our centre pass and score a goal from it and then go on to win the game. Centrals D Grade have been training hard with good attendance at every training session and Coach Melinda Dobai will be happy with their efforts today.
Best: Jacinta Mesman, Kate Potts, Shanade Tronson
C Grade
Werribee Centrals 38 to East Geelong 24
Centrals C Grade started off slowly but with new recruit Emma Fitzgerald dominating in the centre court were able to take control and claim the first quarter. Centrals defence kept it tight, rebounding East Geelong's missed shots at goal. Centrals C Grade goaling combination Tania Redpath and another recruit Ellie Tubbs together with Melinda Dobai worked hard in the attacking end to keep Centrals C Grade in the lead. Centrals centre court worked hard all game. With a few new recruits this year Centrals C Grade will have strength all over the court. Coach Tania Redpath has been working hard to get this C Grade side match fit and ready to play some good netball.
Best: Emma Fitzgerald, Kyrstie Smith, Ellie Tubbs
B Grade
Werribee Centrals 44 to East Geelong 10
Centrals B Grade came out strongly from the first whistle and with a very new B Grade Line-Up this team will be strong and very versatile this season. New recruit Natalie Ramsdale was one of Centrals stand-outs controlling the centre court with her accurate feeds into Centrals Goalers. Centrals welcome back Coach/Player Amanda Nielsen (GA) who also played a great game in her comeback after having a baby. Centrals have a strong versatile side this year with 3 defenders, 3 goalers, and 4 strong centre court players. Amy Giaini played a strong game in (WD) proving her worth in this B Grade side. Millie Hudson another recruit was also one of Centrals best. Millie will be a great addition to an already strong defence for Centrals B Grade. Coaches Amanda Nielsen & Emma Maycock were very happy with todays result. Hard to pick best players - all 9 players giving 100%.
Best: Natalie Ramsdale, Amanda Nielsen, Amy Giaini
A Grade
Werribee Centrals 60 to East Geelong 13
Coached by Kristy Krywula and with a few new recruits and the welcome return of Hailey Sildatke Werribee Centrals A Grade are ready for the challenge. Werribee Centrals got the start they wanted with great defensive pressure. With Mickayla Ward (GA) sidelined due to illness after the first quarter it saw Best on Court new young recruit Aysha Ward (GA) and Hailey Sildatke (GS) stepping in to help out in goals. Aysha & Hailey made the most of every opportunity. New recruit Casey Price was strong in defence giving great encouragement throughout the game. With Danni Stewart (C) giving her fast give and goes Centrals A Grade outclassed East Geelong all over the court. Nicole Stewart & Mel Jeka both played well for 4 quarters and Ashlee Depetro (GK) worked hard all game never allowing her opponent much chance in the goal circle. Centrals A Grade will welcome back Jenni Gardner & new recuit Jackie McCauley ready to take on Inverleigh in round 2.
Best: Aysha Ward, Casey Price, Mel Jeka
Centrals play in Werribee at the Ballan Road Courts on 18th April and it will give spectators a chance to see some quality netball played on local courts.
