Well after a great win against the top team last week we fronted up to Corio who are struggling this year and with a few players missing it was one that needed to not slip away. A quick start by the side and a goal to Daniel Boyd and it certainly looked like the side had no intention to let this one get away. The endeavor and pressure and run was still there and Centrals quickly had a 10 goal lead. In the second Corio were able to bottle the game up which suited them as Centrals running game disappeared and it showed on the scoreboard. Coach Nick Smith was not happy and asked the group to respond as they should for a team who are pushing for a place in the final five. Brenden Wilson moved up forward was a catalyst as he quickly had 3 goals and with Blake Taylor running through the lines Centrals were back on track. The side continued on in the fourth to record a well earned percentage win. The downside was two bad injuries in the last quarter and we wish the boys a speedy recovery.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 26.21 – 177 to Corio 4.10 - 34
Goal Kickers:- N Johnson 5, J Smith 4, B Wilson 4, D Boyd 3, L Cachia 2, K Butty 2, B Taylor 2, M Camilleri, B Carlton, J Despott & J Sloan 1 each.
Best Players:- B Taylor, N Johnson, J Smith, B Wilson, J Sloan, D Boyd & S Browne.
The Reserves with a few of the Colts playing started well and seemed to have better system but it was Chris Koutzamanis back from injury who seemed to be everywhere up forward that got Centrals away to a fast start kicking 5 goals in the first half of footy. With this input and having a 10 to 3 goals lead at half time it was up to the players to keep that momentum going. This they did with Shame Weatherley across half back and Andrew Zammit picking up kicks at will around the ground. Matty Malual and Robel Ukubamarian were dominating the rucks which were giving the team a great start from any contest. A solid win and the run home is a hard one so back to the training track for all.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 20.6 – 126 to Corio 5.6 – 36
Goal Kickers:- CKoutzamanis 7, B Davies 3, M Paul 3, M Laverack, M Malual, C O’Malley, J Williams, D Tarascio, A Zammit & J Belegante 1 each.
Best Players:- C Koutsmanis, A Zammit, S Weatherley, C O’Malley, M Malual, R Ukubamariam & B Davies.
A reminder we have the bye next weekend and on the following week 28th July on all games will be at Geelong West. Need the win to keep pressure on the five.
