Well up against the ladder leaders Inverleigh a honorable loss on their home ground would have been a fair result but this was never on the cards for this young group who once again showed what youth, talent and persistence can do when it all comes together. The difference between the two sides was Centrals pressure and tackling which had Inverleigh always rushing their game and this was reflected on the scoreboard as the pressure on that last kick for goal was never an easy one meaning Inverleigh kicked 19 points and may have just been the winning factor. We pointed out the pressure the Centrals back half put on their opposition last week and this was evident again. Special mention to Luke Speziale who the Coach gave the task on Inverleighs Michael Best and kept him to one goal and a handful of kicks. At the other end of the ground Nic Bauld and Luke Cachia worked well together and it was great to see Brad Carlton getting back to his best after that large injury layoff. A great all round performance and now to match it with the other higher rated teams in the run home to the finals. Keep winning and we never know.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 13.6 – 84 to Inverleigh 8.19 - 67
Goal Kickers:- N Bauld 2, K Butty 2, J Smith 2, L Cachia, D Boyd, R Quarrier, N Johnson, A Briggs, T Nyawela & B Taylor 1 each.
Best Players:- J Smith, A Sleep-Dalton, B Carlton, N Johnson, L Cachia, J Sloan & L Speziale.
The Reserves struggling again to field a side with a few withdrawing after selection were well in the game right up to the last quarter but with no bench left allowed the home side to kick away. But really a good showing by the side in poor footy conditions and hopefully with a full side next week the boys will get back to that winning feeling.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 5.6 – 36 to Inverleigh 12.9 – 81
Goal Kickers:- D Skinner, C O’Malley, M DeLuca, L O’Malley & J Despotti 1 each.
Best Players:- D Skinner, S Weatherley, M DeLuca, J Drohomiercki, C O’Malley & M Malual.
A reminder all games next weekend are at home on Civilex Oval against Corio. Need the win to keep pressure on the five.
