Centrals again at Galvin Park this time against a strong East Geelong club and this would be the test against one of the middle rung teams in the GDFL. The result would really show just where Centrals would sit in 2016. Centrals started against the wind in light rain and had the first two goals but the pace of the game was very slow and East were able to get them back with the use of the breeze. You could tell this was going to be a even affair as both sides struggled to kick goals in the swirling conditions and neither could get an ascendancy in the game.
Centrals kicking with the wind in the second got away as they started to control the centre of the ground and with Jarrad Ramsay and Phil Jones picking up kicks at will around the ground Centrals were able to kick away to a 5 goal break. After the main break both sides worked the ball better and but in the end it was Centrals better fitness and the that five goal break in the second quarter that was the difference. Special memtion to young Callam O'Malley in his first senior game.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 21.17 – 143 to East Geelong 16.11 - 107
Goal Kickers:- P Jones 5, K Butty 5, L Cachia 3, J Ramsay 2, B Wilson, C Wilson, D Boyd, D Lawson, T Sapountzis & S Kilender 1 each.
Best Players:- P Jones, J Ramsay, D Boyd, K Butty, B Wilson & D Lawson.
The Reserves played a far more experienced side and really struggled all day to cope with their size and the ball movement of the East Geelong players. The endeavor improved as the game went on and the sides ball movement was a little better but when you only kick two goals for a game there is little to write about.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 2.12 – 24 to East Geelong 9.15 – 69
Goal Kickers:- M DeLuca & J Drohomerecki 1 each.
Best Players:- A Briggs, K Basile, A Briggs, M Devlin, J Freeman & R O’Shannassy.
The U 18 Colts side played Portarlington and for the second week in a row they were a class above their opposition. This group are now in their second year of U 18s and it is showing as they play together more and learn off each other and their coaches. It was a great team effort even though young Brad Carlton and Joel Shippcott stood out. These last two games were grading games so it will be expected the boys will see some higher division sides in their final two grading games.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 18.19 – 127 to Portarlington 2.2 – 14
Goal Kickers:- S Polden 3, J Sutton 2, A Clements 2, D Skinner 2, A Tzagarakis 2, Z Anthony, S Browne, B Carlton, D Chesterman, T Nolton, B Taylor & B Weedon 1 each.
Best Players:- B Carlton, B Weedon, E Tzargarakis, J Shipcott, B Linehan-Cunningham & L Williams.
