Centrals Netballers travelled to Bannockburn another strong netball club in the second week of the split round of GDFL Netball and continued to show they are growing under their new coach.
A Grade Werribee Centrals 59 vs Bannockburn 28
Centrals came well prepared for a good contest against fourth on the ladder Bannockburn. Centrals played with consistency throughout each quarter, and with plenty of communication on the court, Centrals controlled the play. At the goaling end, Eleanor Tubbs worked well alongside Mickayla Ward who shot at 99%. Eleanor moved the ball in and around the goal circle and took advantage of every goaling opportunity. Nicole Stewart led the way around the centre court, creating plenty of space and drive and feeding accurately into the Centrals goaling combination. Melissa Jeka (WD) was in fine form, putting pressure over every ball to try and claim some turnovers. Centrals played each quarter like it was the first quarter, never dropping the pace or intensity. Bannockburn worked hard all game to try to contain the Centrals goaling opportunities. Moving Grace Kennedy into goals in the final quarter worked well for Bannockburn, but by this stage, Werribee Centrals had full control of the game and the four points.
Best: N Stewart, E Tubbs, M Ward
Goals: E Tubbs 36, M Ward 23
B Grade Werribee Centrals 30 vs Bannockburn 27
It was always going to be a tough game for B grade this week. Centrals trained hard and made sure they took the good training session into their game. Alyce Daniels had a stand out game in WA working hard all game to get the ball into the goalers. Both goalers played well with an overall scoring percentage of 83%. Renee Di Gioacchino played a nice game in GA and combined well with Amanda Nielsen for 4 quarters. Once again the defenders played awesome with Paras Mackenzie taking some great intercepts and working the ball down the court. A great team effort today with everyone contributing to the win!
Best: A Daniels, R Di Gioacchino, P Mackenzie
Goals: A Nielsen 16, R Di Gioacchino 14
C Grade Werribee Centrals 25 vs Bannockburn 28
Centrals were tested today against a strong Bannockburn team. Although Sarah Clarke and Jade Terriss were two of the teams strongest players in defense, unfortunately Centrals couldn't convert as much as they would have liked on the scoreboard and allowed Bannockburn goalers to capitalize on this. Rebecca Harris worked tirelessly in the mid court but as a team, Centrals were not at their best today. Their passes were weak and their intensity needs to lift next week if they want to get back to playing finals level netball.
Best: R Harris, S Clarke, J Terriss
Goals: C Melilli 16, A Smith 8, K Genge 1
D Grade Werribee Centrals 28 vs Bannockburn 19
Werribee Centrals knew they were in for a tough game today facing the undefeated Tigers. Centrals came out strong from the begginning leading by two. Diandra Sellers and Megan Cunningham worked tirelessly in defense pulling in intercepts and getting most rebounds. Bonnie Bertone and Holly Ellul stepped up in the third quarter to convert the defenses' turnovers to capitalize. In the end Centrals came away with the win by 8 due to their steady and smart netball across the whole court
Best: D Seller, M Cunningham, B Bertone
Goals: H Ellul 19, B Bertone 9
