Centrals played Corio a club who could be a finals contender if they continue to play as they have done over the past few weeks and are always hard to beat on their own turf. As expected it was a hard battle all day and with the weather closing in and a couple of showers of rain the players found it hard to handle the slippery ball. Brad McNicol was the exception as he found the ball and gave Centrals plenty of drive and he was ably backed up by the backline in Shane Weatherly, Michael Knight, Sean Murphy and Luke Phipps who held out the Corio forwards. In the end the difference in the two sides was Centrals quicker players like David Hall who was able to out run his opponents and kick three telling goals.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 12.5 – 77 to Corio 8.7 - 55
Goal Kickers:- N Lovell 4, D Hall 3, L Salmond 2, B Raymond, S Rathbone & T Bray 1 each.
Best Players:- B McNicol, N Lovell, J King, S Weatherly, S Murphy, M Cassisdy & R Cornish.
Centrals Reserves also played Corio and again without coach Andrew McDonald who was playing in the seniors played well for the first half but as Corio gained that will to win on their own ground just were not prepared to go and win the ball. Centrals players know that Corio are always good at home and their lack of endeavour in this encounter may cost them dearly later in the season when a higher ladder position may become important. Hope they learn that 100 minutes of tough relentless football is needed every week as this competition is very even.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 7.7 – 49 to Corio 11.12 – 78
Goal Kickers:- J Drohomercki 4, M Gatti 3.
Best Players:- P Grey, M Gatti, J Drohomercki, C Wilson, N Byrne & C Novenic.
