Netballers had some solid wins and C Grade got back on track and with now two hard games to come against Anakie and then of course Winchelsea the girls will be training hard this week in readiness for the games ahead and the finals in three weeks time.
A Grade Centrals 71 vs. Geelong West 21.
Werribee Centrals played a consistent game working different combinations across the court. Amanda Wilson and Noni McClure were impressive in defence putting the Geelong West goalers under plenty of pressure and getting plenty of hands to balls.
Jeni Gardner worked hard in WA proving plenty of drive to the Centrals attacking line. Centrals will continue to work hard heading into finals.
Goals: Mickayla Ward 30, Rebecca Lally 13, Ellie Tubbs 20, and Jeni Gardner 8.
Best: Jeni Gardner, Mickayla Ward, and Noni McClure.
B Grade Centrals 37 vs. Geelong West 16.
With players missing today coach Jeni Gardner new that it was going to be hard to find the right combinations across the court. Getting off to a reasonable start in the first quarter, Werribee had room to improve to finish off with the required 4 strong quarters. Paras Mackenzie combined well with both Leigh Stewart and Emma Richards in the defence circle with a strong reach and getting plenty of hands to the ball. Emma Richards impressed with her half in the centre, demonstrating precise passing down and into the ring and creating space for her teammates down the court. Centrals hope to continue finishing off the season in a strong fashion, heading into what will be a competitive finals series.
Goals: Ellie Tubbs 28, Rily Dorgan 9.
Best: Emma Richards, Anna Pattison and Paras Mackenzie.
C Grade Centrals 41 vs. Geelong West 31
C grade finally had a great 1st quarter with all players working hard in retaining possession of the ball. In the 2nd Centrals dropped their intensity which allowed Geelong West to take control and gain a small lead. Bringing on some fresh legs in the 3d quarter allowed for a strong defensive effort from all. Confident passing in attack and some great movement saw Centrals take the lead. This confident play continued in the last quarter to allow for a great team win.
Goals: Clarissa Melilli, 19 Kimberley Genge 8, and Amanda Nielsen 14
Best: Clarissa Melilli, Amanda Neilson, and Kimberley Genge.
D Grade Centrals 43 vs. Geelong West 22
Centrals had a fantastic game on the weekend. Proving they are coming together as a strong team for the finals. Amber Smith and Holly Ellul again combined well in the ring with fantastic passing between each other and the centre and WA. Emily Ashley stepped up and provided great drives and passing in to the ring as well. A fantastic team effort by all.
Goals: Holly Ellul 30 Amber Smith 13
Best: Amber Smith, Sandy Andrews, and Sarah Clarke.
Under 17’s Centrals 70 vs. Geelong West 3
A great game for Centrals today with every player putting in 110%. Each quarter Centrals were able to work on some new systems and change things up as they prepare for the final series. Defence also picked up their game working on their throw-ins and bringing the ball down the court. Overall a very good result.
Goals: Amber Smith 15, Clare Atherton 28 Holly Ellul 27
Best: Megan Noonan, Paras Mackenzie, and Janelle Bragg
Under 15’s Centrals 22 vs. Geelong West 12
A needed win for Centrals today but with only 3 quarters of good netball Centrals will need to regroup and train hard to perform for the full 4 quarters, especially coming into finals. There were definitely some good passages of play, especially when they had strong drives all over the court and into the goal circle. Nishali Paththamperuma had some great drives coming out of the ring and followed her shots strongly. Keilara Briggs also had a great game in defence taking many intercepts.
Goals Nishali Paththamperuma 20, Emily Ashley 2.
Best: Keilara Briggs, Nishali Paththamperuma, And Jade Terris.
This week Centrals meet Anakie again in what should be some very competitive netball leading into the finals in two weeks.
