Werribee Centrals netballers always knew this week against Inverleigh would be a very competitive round of matches and there was a good crowd at Galvin Park to witness some very good standard of netball from the local girls.
A Grade
Werribee centrals 52 v. Inverleigh 30
With a few keys players missing this week Werribee Centrals A Grade started out a little slow and didn't step it up a notch until the second quarter. New recruit in Maggie Lind played an awesome game in goals alongside Aysha Ward and was able to put the goals on the scoreboard for Centrals. Centrals defence found it hard to bring the ball out of Inverleigh's half and down the court but Centrals had plenty of speed feeding the ball into the goal circle when they did so. Danni Stewart dominated once again this week with her speed and fitness being the key factor to outclassing her opposition. Centrals A Grade took a hold over the game in the 2nd half and never looked back. The final quarter was Centrals best quarter with Centrals taking control all over the court.
Best: Danni Stewart, Jenni Gardner,Maggie Lind
B Grade
Werribee Centrals 39 v. Inverleigh 31
Werribee Centrals B Grade knew it would be a tough contest against fifth on the ladder Inverleigh. Centrals took a small lead going into the second quarter and had to work hard to keep control. Centrals had some great passages of play with Emma Richards working tirelessly in defence creating many turnovers. Centrals B Grade picked up a seven goal lead going into the final quarter. Brooke Smith (WA) was one of the stand-outs this week and was equally backed up by
Natalie Ramsdale.
Best: Emma Richards, Brooke Smith, Natalie Ramsdale
C Grade
Werribee Centrals 36 v. Inverleigh 27
Centrals C Grade played four consistent quarters of good standard netball during this game. Leigh Stewart and Sam Knight both played a sensational game in defence. Megan Hill controlled the centre court and also does her bit helping out
in the defence end. The whole team combined well and just maybe the training sessions are paying off for the Centrals C Grade side.
Best: Leigh Stewart, Sam Knight, Megan Hill
D Grade
Werribee Centrals 48 v. Inverleigh 16
Centrals D Grade took off at a fast pace with Charlie Buzza & Sandy Andrews putting on a fine performance in the centre court. Werribee Centrals D Grade are improving from week to week and will certainly be up there come finals time. New recruit Debbie Ellul combined well in the defence with Paras Mackenzie and will bring some strength to the team. Centrals D Grade won each quarter with ease and were happy to bring home the 4 points. Best for Centrals was Sandy Andrews wife of ex captain of our senior footy team Robbie Andrews. Its good to see the family relationship continue.
Best: Sandy Andrews, Charlie Buzza, Megan Noonan
U17's
Werribee Centrals 21 v. Inverleigh 19
Against a very strong opposition Centrals U17's started off a bit sluggish with no-one on the court really getting it together. Centrals defenders Sam Knight & Paras Mackenzie combined well in defence but had no back up from the rest of the team during the first half. Centrals U17's worked as a team though in the second half and were able to put plenty of pressure on their opponents.
Centrals U17's fought hard all over the court and it was only in the last quarter that all 7 players on the court started working together as a team. Meg Noonan stepped it up a notch in the final quarter and was able to help bring the
game home for Centrals.
Best: Meg Noonan, Sam Knight, Paras Mackenzie
U15's
Werribee Centrals 12 v. Inverleigh 19
Centrals U15's played some very ordinary netball in this game with no-one wanting the ball, no pressure and no talking on the court. Janelle Bragg did work hard all game and Madi Hayes & Bec Harris did pick up the pace in the centre court but with Centrals goalers not in form and not too many good patches of play Centrals U15's struggled against their opposition. Centrals U15's will need to re-group at training this week and come out a stronger combination against Corio on Saturday if they are to continue to improve.
Best: Janelle Bragg, Madison Hayes, Rebecca Harris
Next week Centrals travel to play Corio at Corio in what should again be some very competitive netball games.
