Werribee Centrals traveled to meet East Geelong the powerhouse of the GDFL on Saturday and with injuries and absentees due to the long weekend knew this would be the hardest challenge they faced in 2011 so far and to come away with not winning but being far from disgraced in both games was a real credit to the playing group who took the field in the senior and reserves. In the U 18s East Geelong were unable to field a side having 11 players as five players didn't turn up to the ground and didn't even contact club officials. As we had not played for two weeks a decision was made to play a scratch match and five players who volunteered were provided to the opposition. These included our Captain, One Vice Captain and three very capable players. The game was played in a very competitive nature and the central umpires complimented both sides attack on the football and the exemplary behaviour by players. This is how the competition should be viewed and was enjoyed by spectators. A thank you to the East Geelong Under 18 players who turned up to play and our players who volunteered to assist in enabling us to have a good hard game before confronting a certain finals contender in Inverleigh.
Seniors
Centrals battled hard all day and did not take a backward step with Blake Pilkington giving them a lot of drive. Shaun Simmons put in another great game at full back and was backed up well by Shane Weatherley. Damien Galle across half forward with Craig Hardingham played well and put up a real contest against much more qualified players. The team were far from disgraced by a talented side East Geelong and allows them to look forward to next week against Inverleigh another side above Centrals on the ladder which is being played at Galvin Park Werribee.
Scores: Werribee Centrals 9.6 - 60 to East Geelong 13.12 - 90

Best players: B. Pilkington, A. Burke, D. Galle, S. Simmons, S. Weatherley, C. Hardingham & T. Bray.
Reserves
Due to the long weekend and injuries a number of players were not available but this allowed four of our under 18 players in Cameron Wilson, Luke Cachia, Karl Blade & Callan Novinec to play a game of senior footy and they all aquitted themselves well. Our away umpire was also stuck in Adelaide and we thank Anthea Walsh for filling in at short notice.
This was a great game of football in what was a must need win for the Reserves against East Geelong who were 2nd placed playing our team who were 7th. Very hard fought close game by both sides and Centrals team tackled and chased all day and it was hard to believe the two teams were that far apart on the ladder. Centrals players should be commended for giving everything and only falling short in the last minutes. A special mention to Luke Cachia one of the U 18s kicking five goals.
Scores: Werribee Centrals: 9.7 - 61 to East Geelong 9.8 - 62
Goals: Luke Cachia 5, M.Deluca, C.Wilson, P.Hegarty & A. DiCampli 1 each.
Best players: L,Cachia, N. Beasley, C. Wilson, N. Byrne, J. McCartney, J. Pace & V. Leung
This week Centrals meet third placed Inverleigh at Galvin Park Shaws Road Werribee which now looms as a must win game.
