"The season comes to a climax today with Bell Post Hill playing in their third consecative Grand Final against probably the most successful club since the League was formed in 1979 that being Werribee Centrals."
When we look back to 1979 when the GDFL was formed when the GDFL & GFL became seperate bodies it is interesting to note the teams that have won premierships.
Werribee Centrals have won 6 Division 1 and 1 Division 2 and have been runners up 3 times (now 4 of course). The closest clubs to Werribee Centrals are Bannockburn with 3 Division 1 and 1 Division 2, North Geelong with 4 Division 1 and 1 Division 2 and Thomson with 5 Division 1 Premierships.
The only clubs not to have won a premiership are Winchelsea but only joined in 2002. Other clubs to compete in the GDFL were Meridith, Belmont, Lara, St Josephs, Modeware, St Peters, Amateurs, St Leonards and of course our close neighbour Wyndhamvale.
Just a little bit of history to look back on and something we should all be proud of. There has been many great players come through our club and many of them have been able to taste the ultimate success by being part of Werribee Centrals.
This was shown by the number of past players and officials who were actually at the game on the weekend. Hopefully we will continue to see those friendly faces many more times in 2011.
