Werribee Centrals Netballers had some mixed results in the weekends finals but the U15's & U17's didn't let the club down remaining undefeated and winning their games well giving themselves a spot in the Grand Final in a fortnights time. All the senior sides struggled except B Grade in their 1st Semi on Sunday and could not find a win to match the juniors in the Second Semi's.
A Grade
Werribee Centrals 35 v. Winchelsea 42
Centrals had a great start to this much anticipated game against top of the ladder Winchelsea. With all players on the court working for each other Centrals were nine goals up going into the 2nd quarter. Winchelsea fought back hard and creeped back into the game in the second quarter restricting Centrals at both ends of the court. Centrals still had some good passages of play but just couldn't seem to stop the Winchelsea goal scorer. With a few positional changes made Centrals went into the 3rd quarter determined and tried to take control of the game but this wasn't to be and Centrals A Grade found themselves working in overdrive to try to stay in the game. Centrals A Grade will need to re-group, have a good training session and re-focus and be ready to take on the next challenge next Saturday if they want to secure a spot in the grand final.
Best: Hailey Sildatke, Danielle Stewart, Emma Maycock
B Grade.
Werribee Centrals 31 v. East Geelong 20
Centrals B Grade had a strong start, with Amanda Nielson & Renee Digiocchino combining well in goals, their movement in and around the goal circle was fantastic. Centrals B Grade took out the first qtr 10 v. 6, and then continued to put the pressure on East Geelong. Brooke Short & Maria Masei proved that they are a great defensive combination, causing plenty of headaches for the East Goalers. Michelle Hunter (WA) played one of her best games today against a very physical player, Michelle held her ground, controlled the centre court and was one of Centrals Best this week. Centrals won each qtr, and now have earned the second chance. With all 9 players getting a go on the court and helping Centrals come away with the deserved win.
Best: Brooke Short, Michelle Hunter, Amanda Nielson
C Grade
Werribee Centrals 27 v. North Geelong 32
Werribee Centrals C Grade knew this was always going to be a tough and physical game. Kimberley Genge combined well with Ellie Tubbs and converted the goals at every opportunity. Leigh Stewart played a strong game in the defence against a very tough and accurate goal attack. Centrals C Grade were well down in the first half but with some positional changes made they managed to creep their way back into the game. This was probably one of Centrals C Grade's worst games for the season but with a good training session and back to basics they will be ready to fire up again next Saturday.
Best: Kimberley Genge, Leigh Stewart, Kyrstie Smith
D Grade
Werribee Centrals 29 v. East Geelong 32
In a close contest Centrals D Grade played some good netball. Tayla Smith and Lauren Jessup worked tirelessly together to create movement in the goal circle and provide plenty of opportunities. In the centre court Katherine Travers controlled the game and steadied the play throughout the game. Towards
the end of the third quarter Lauren Jessup(GS) was sidelined with an ankle injury, this did nothing to help Centrals who seemed to fall away without Laurens influence. All players on the court did their best but fitness and basic errors let Centrals down on the day.
Best: Tayla Smith, Katherine Travers, Lauren Jessup
U17's
Werribee Centrals 32 v. Bell Post Hill 16
Centrals U17's came out strongly from the first whistle. Maria Masei and Beth Lipscombe were sensational in defence and worked tirelessly from the start of the game and never gave up. Tayla Smith (GS) was a force to be reckoned with, with her accurate shooting and strong holds. Coach Hailey Sildatke tried some different combinations with all nine players getting a go on the court. A strong win for this undefeated U17's side.
Best: Tayla Smith, Beth Lipscombe, Maria Masei
U15's
Werribee Centrals 29 v. Bannockburn 19
In an even first quarter Werribee Centrals U15's took a while to settle into the game. With nerves playing a big part, some silly passes letting Centrals down. During the second quarter and with all seven players on the court finally playing some good steady netball, Meg Noonan (GA) and Amber Smith (GS) started to work the goal circle and shoot some good goals. Kate Hounsell and Charlie Buzza had a good game with some good strong drives and creating plenty of space in the centre court. Centrals stepped it up a notch in the second half with some great passages of play. Centrals U15's showed the opposition
why they are top of the ladder and deserve that spot in the Grand Final.
Best: Meg Noonan, Kate Hounsell, Charlie Buzza
Next week all the senior sides will be in action in the preliminary finals at St Albans Reserve St Albans Geelong.
