Werribee Centrals played Inverleigh at Galvin Park knowing that Inverleigh are the big improvers of the competition so this was not going to be any easy ride as it may have been in past years.
Centrals started the game well kicking first three goals through Adam Schembri, Anthony Kitchen and Craig Rosenzwieg before inverliegh scored. Missed opportunities cost Centrals a little but good control of the game by Inverleigh as they moved the ball well and had a big target in their full forward got them back into the game by quarter end.
Centrals defence tightened up and were strong limiting Inverleighs opportunities and together with good use of the interchange meant fresh legs on the ground especially up forward resulting in a good final five minutes with two goals to Travis Ryan, one after a great rundown and one to Kitchen as Centrals finished with nine goals for the quarter.
Iverleigh had a good start kicking first two after half time as they beat Centrals around the stoppages but good marks to Schembri and Calbert resulting in goals settled Centrals down. David Leatch and Shaun Simmons strong in defence combined well together with Travis Johns and Kurt Tietze in the centre held Centrals together for the quarter. Simon Calbert had a purple patch in the latter part of the quarter and Kitchen and Rosenzweig fought well up forward.
Centrals finished the game with no interchange as injuries to Kitchen, Rosenzweig, Travis Ryan and Travis Johns and Simon Calbert at stages in the last allowed Inverleigh to finish the game hard but Centrals backline was strong still and the midfield held up to give Centrals enough scoring opportunities up forward dispite the three off as they controlled the game to the finish to record a fairly convincing win.
