After two good wins and improvements showing each game Centrals were looking forward to this game and the coaching staff again showed they were prepared to give the young players a fair go at senior football keeping all of them in the side and also bringing up young Dean Cachia for his first game even though he had to withdraw with injury concerns.
Seniors: With strong blustery wind blowing across Winter Reserve changes had to be made to the Werribee Centrals line up with the omission due to injury of Dean Cachia replaced by David Todaro in the selected team. 10 minutes into the first quarter new recruit and goal kicking full forward Craig Rozenzweig was sidelined with a hamstring strain and took no further part in the game. First quarter Centrals scorded 5.1 to 1 solitary goal. The second quarter saw Anthony Kitchen dominate and kick 4 goals. There were several physical incidents during the second quarter and the result was Ryan Cornish and a Belmont player receiving a yellow card. At half time the Centrals Coach David Leatch addressed players and supporters in the rooms speaking of earning respect as a football club playing disciplined football, concentrating on what we can control and behaving in a manner befitting a successful club. After half time the players responded the supporters behaviour was exemplary and Centrals scored 101 points to Belmont 14. Anthony Kitchen finished with 7 goals, David Leatch took a number of contested marks. What was most pleasing was the back six who were unpassable in the last half. The more experienced Centrals team were too good all over the ground for the young Lion cubs.
At the end of the days play it was again pleasing to see the number of players and supporters in the Belmont Social rooms. The hospitality shown by Belmont was much appreciated. It was also pleasing on arriving at the Racecourse Hotel to see the bar packed. After a few beers and a meal many players and supporters attended Chirnside Park to watch a match under lights between Werribee and the new Goldcoast team.
