BRIEF HISTORY OF BELMONT LIONS FOOTBALL AND NETBALL CLUB.
In 1965 the club now known as Belmont Lions (now) was for formerly called St Bernards Football Club in which it competed in the geelong and district football league until 1973.
Then changed its name from St Bernards in 1974 to East Belmont Football Club from there until 23 years later the club changed its name again in 1998 to become the Belmont Lions Sports Club. At the turn of the century in 2000 the Geelong and District Football League decided to add Netball to the league which was embraced by our club and also the whole league in general.
We have 7 grades of football teams which range from under 10s,12s,14s,16s, & 18s. Then it goes to your Reserve Grade Football Team and to our Senior Grade Football Team. Which are fielded each week in the football season and are extremely competitive in all grades of football.
We also have 7 grades of netball teams which range from under 13s,15s,17s & D grade, C grade, B grade & A grade. Which are also extremely competitive in all grades of netball. But none of this would happen without our wonderful volunteers who help out each week and famlies as well in all parts of the running of the club.
The colors we were are: Maroon + Blue + Gold (Brisbane Lions Colors in the AFL)
Our home ground has always been called Winters Reserve which is located in Glyn Street Belmont.
Our Ground dimensions are: Length-146 meters & width-130 meters(that is our main ground)
We all so have a bottom ground with similar size to our main ground with state of the art light towers covering both grounds for winter training sessions.
We also have recently done fresh renovations to all our change room facilities and our social rooms in conjunction with the East Belmont Cricket Club who we share the facilities with.
