NEWTOWN LITTLE LEAGUE
MISSION STATEMENT
It is the aim of the Newtown Little League to provide children the opportunity to pursue sport, health and well being to help them grow in confidence, athletically, physically and mentally irrespective of backgrounds or abilities.
FAIR PLAY CODES
PLAYERS’ CODE OF CONDUCT
· Play by the rules of the game and the rules set down by your coach and the Newtown Little League.
· Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your coach or team manager approach the official during a break or after the competition.
· Control your temper. Verbal or physical abuse of officials, umpires, spectators or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in any sport.
· Work equally hard for yourself and your team. Your team’s performance will benefit and so will you.
· Be a good sport. Applaud all good plays whether they are by your team, your opponent or the other team.
· Shake hands with other players and officials at the end of each match.
· Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player.
· Co-operate with your coach, team-mates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition.
· Play for the ‘fun of it’ not just to please parents and coaches.
· Never use abusive language based on gender or race and swearing will NOT be tolerated under any circumstances.
PARENTS’ and SPECTATORS’ CONDUCT
- Encourage children to participate, if they are interested. However, if a child is not willing, do not force them.
- Focus upon your child’s efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This assists the child in setting realistic goals related to their ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.
- Teach children that an honest effort is as important as victory, so that the loss of the game is accepted without any undue disappointment.
- Encourage your child that fair play is best and to always play by the rules.
- Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
POSITIVE COMMENTS ARE MOTIVATIONAL……………………..
- Remember that children are involved in organised sport for THEIR ENJOYMENT, NOT YOURS.
- Remember that children learn from example. Applaud good performances and efforts from each team. Congratulate all participants upon their performances regardless of the game’s outcome.
- If you disagree with an official, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than questioning the official’s judgement or honesty in public. REMEMBER most officials give their time and effort to provide recreational activities for the children and deserve your support.
- Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players.
- Show respect for your team’s opponents as without them there would be no game.
- Encourage players to follow the rules and the officials decisions.
- Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using foul language or abusive language, harassing players, coaches or officials.
- Support ALL efforts to remove the verbal and physical abuse from junior sporting activities.
- Recognise the values and abilities of volunteer coaches. They give their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your child and deserve your support.
- Support your club officials in maintaining the highest standard of behaviour both on and off the field for the betterment of the club and your family. Offer your assistance to the team that your child is playing in so that every opportunity is being provided for the very best supervision and support. Your involvement will give both yourself and your child far more satisfaction.
