NEWTOWN & Chilwell’s lengthy injury list has grown by another two with star recruit Tim O’Keefe and Jordan Crerar both facing extended periods on the sidelines.
Both went down in Saturday’s 27-point loss to Colac, with former Essendon rookie O’Keefe hurting his knee.
“It was an innocuous event in a contest down in the goal square,” coach Damien Christensen said.
“He landed awakwardly. We thought someone fell across him.
“He’s done a medial (ligament), not ruptured it, (he’ll spend) probably up to six weeks (sidelined) we’re hoping at this stage.
“He’ll probably be in a brace for a period of a time and hopefully we can get him back.”
Crerar, who previously dislocated the same shoulder in 2009, suffered the injury in a tackle.
“It popped out in his sleep last (Tuesday) night,” Christensen said.
“The ligament damage means his shoulder is very loose and very sore.”
Last year’s grand finalists are already missing skipper Dan Feery after off-season neck surgery, while veteran forward Luke Forbes (knee) is yet to play in 2016.
Feery is expected to resume running in mid-May, while Forbes is an outside chance to return for Saturday’s important clash with Leopold at Elderslie Reserve.
Tim Horan, Tim Brown, Luke Kermond and Matthew Higgins are also sidelined.
“There’s a lot to drip feed back over the journey.,” Christensen said.
