The GFNL netball presentation night was held on Monday Night at the Buckleys Entertainment centre. All twelve clubs gathered together to see who would be crowned GFNL netballs finest.
D grade kicked off the night, with Tina Cooke from St Albans winning the D grade Hot Shots award. The D grade Best and Fairest was won by Liza Harwood from North Shore, who had a substantial lead on the Runner up Cynthia Hough from St Alban’s.
C Grade was a convincing win by Caroline Morgan from St Joseph’s taking out the B&F with 32 votes polling in 14 games for the season. It was a close battle for second seeing a three way tie for runner up, with Lisa Carmichael from Leopold, Bonnie Coburn from South Barwon and Lara Lynch from Colac all receiving 25 votes. The Hot Shots winner for the C grade was Katelyn Meesen from GWSP.
B Grade was another landslide win with Kate Jeanes from Newtown and Chilwell taking out the B&F on 34 votes. Runner up again was a close battle seeing Stacey McCarthy taking out the runner up on 28 votes from Leopold’s Kirsty Heazelwood on 27 votes. The B grade Hot Shots winner was Kathryn Asmussen from St Mary’s.
Special awards outside the B&F votes counts were also award on the night. Rookie of the Year award was awarded to South Barwon’s Ruby Horton. Umpire of the Year was awarded to Grace Iacono from St Albans for achieving her B badge level. The Netball club champion was awarded for an eighth straight year to the South Barwon Netball Club. The Team of the Year was also announced on the night, with South Barwon’s Sascha Veldhuis named as coach. Staring from the Goalers: Ruby Horton (South Barwon), Julia Knott (Newtown & Chilwell) and Rachel King (Leopold) Centre Court: Danielle Stewart (Newtown & Chilwell), Olivia Cameron (South Barwon) and Kaitlyn Amor (Leopold). Defenders: Danielle Sgarbi (South Barwon), Madeleine Taylor (Newtown & Chilwell) and Emily Mannix (Leopold).
The last item on the agenda the main event, was the A grade Best and Fairest. Before the vote count kicked off the A grade Hot Shots winner was awarded to Rookie of the Year and Team of the Year awarded winner Ruby Horton from South Barwon. All 18 rounds of votes were counted and the winner was decided in the last game of the final vote. It was a very extremely close count seeing Julia Knott from Newtown & Chilwell winning the A grade best and fairest by one vote from runner up Danielle Sgarbi. Julia polled 23 votes to claim the A grade medal.
