FORMER AFL giant Brad Ottens faces a wait after being reported for striking in Newtown and Chilwell's 50-point win over Bell Park.
Ottens will tonight face the Football Geelong tribunal for making high-contact on former Geelong team-mate Tim Sheringham during the first quarter of the clash at Elderslie Reserve on Saturday. It's understood Sheringham was going back with the flight of the ball when Ottens allegedly struck him high.
The report soured the 16.10 (106) to 8.8 (56) victory, but the plus for the Eagles is that they have won eight straight and also completed a huge turnaround from the last time the two teams met, when Bell Park won by 84 points.
Coach Jacob Spolding admitted post match that he didn't ignore the previous encounter for motivational purposes.
"We did speak a little bit about how they defeated us last time we played each other, however our primary focus this week was to play the way we have been playing the last 10 weeks, which was through a contested yet high-skilled brand of footy," Spolding said.
The home side hit the score board early through forwards David Nye, Jarrod McCorkell and co-captain Jay Bett while midfielders Rob Condy and Allan Johnson disabled the Dragons from forward 50m entry until the dying stages of the opening term.
The game could have gone either way at the start, which is why I'm happy that our boys kept their minds on the footy," Spolding said.
The match would continue to be Newtown's for the remaining three quarters and despite the forward line absence of Brad Ottens, who was sent off with a yellow card, the Eagles continued to deliver the ball to their forward targets, Jay Bett the most accurate with seven goals.
Kane Bouch and Daniel Goodwin also gave the side some extra spark.
