NEWTOWN & Chilwell has put the feelers out to retired Geelong stars Brad Ottens and Cameron Mooney.
After losing assistant coach and former Cat Max Rooke back to Geelong, the Eagles will be keen to bolster the team with experience at the top level.
Coach Jacob Spolding told the Geelong Advertiser yesterday he would love to see Ottens and Mooney play for the Eagles next year, but no formal offer had been made to the pair.
"We will touch base with them before Christmas and see what their plans are," Spolding said.
"Obviously Brad has only just retired and we will let him go and enjoy his wedding and time away.
"If things work out that would be fantastic. If they were to play for us it would be massive.
"They are both three-time premiership players and any club would love to have them."
Rumours have swirled over Mooney's playing career, with the three-time premiership player expected to be in hot demand from local football clubs.
Mooney has reportedly signed to play a handful of games at Palmerston in the Northern Territory Football League over the summer, but his future after that is uncertain.
Ottens, who only announced his retirement last week, is also likely to field numerous calls about his plans next year.
Spolding said Geelong VFL captain Troy Selwood would be an outside chance to play for the Eagles next year.
"Obviously he has to have a home club to play VFL and we are his home club," Spolding said.
"If the VFL has a bye and he wants to play (for Newtown & Chilwell) then he can."
The Eagles will return to training on November 21 on the back of a semi-final loss to St Joseph's.
Spolding said the club was looking for a replacement for Rooke, but he didn't expect an announcement to be made any time soon.
"We will be replacing Max with someone, but there is no one in our mind at this point," he said.
