The Eagles have all but wrapped up an elimination final berth, which will be their first finals appearance since 2007, and have several players set to return to their lineup from injuries over the next fortnight.
First-year playing coach Jacob Spolding is one player looking to regain his touch heading into September after returning from a month on the sidelines in last week's win over Colac.
Despite coming off the ground late in the game complaining of groin soreness, Spolding said he had pulled up fine.
"It was a pretty contested type of game and it took a bit of a toll on the body a bit," Spolding said.
"But I got through which was good and I'm looking forward to getting two games in a row and building up match fitness over the next fortnight."
The Eagles are hopeful Lewis Hyland and Daniel Goodwin will return in the lead-up to the finals while Luke Kermond played his first game back from injury in the reserves last Saturday.
Rob Condy's VFL commitments with Collingwood will determine his availability for Newtown & Chilwell's finals campaign.
Spolding said Collingwood had a bye next Saturday and won't be playing VFL finals.
The Eagles take on St Mary's this weekend in what Spolding expects will be another intense contest with the Saints looking to hang onto fifth spot from the Tigers.
Newtown & Chilwell toppled the Saints by five goals in round eight and Spolding said Saturday's game would be another test for his defence with St Mary's scoring heavily in recent weeks.
"I thought our back six, with the amount of ball that went in there (Colac's forward line) did a marvellous job," Spolding said.
"I think Colac had 14 or 15 more entries so it's a credit to our backline that they kept them to 100 points.
"The boys did a reasonable job against them (St Mary's) last time and I'd like to think they can this week."
Colac is at home to St Albans this Saturday in its last home match of the season.
