“A” Grade
It was a good win to Lakes last week, getting up by 17 over arch rival Orbost Snowy.
Lakes started well with the whole side playing great netball.
Cindy Beha and Chrissy James were strong in attack and Sigrid Dostine played well at wing defence in the absence of Lidia Thorpe-Somerville. Great teamwork saw the Seagulls extend their lead in every quarter to win comfortably.
Award winners: Chrissy James and Sigrid Dostine.
“B” Grade
The first half of the game against the Blues was very even with Lakes having to adjust to the inclusion of American volleyball import Brodie Watts into the goal shooter position.
Lakes went into the second half with a three-goal lead, however settled well in the third, taking the lead out to double figures. Consistent play in the last saw the Seagulls able to stretch the lead out to 24 at the final whistle.
Award winners: Deanne McKendry and Jae-lee Greaves.
“C” Grade
With a number of players missing this week, the “C” grade side was excited to have the addition of some height to its side with Brodie Watts stepping up to play the first of two games for the day.
She combined well with Lindy Bills in the goal circle, helping Lakes to take the lead. Sheree Isles and Michalla Radford, who was playing her second game of the day, formed a formidable team in defence, causing many turnovers and giving Lakes many opportunities allowing the side to get up by 14 in a good win.
Award winners: Michalla Radford and Lindy Bills.
“C” Reserve
The “C” Reserve side was also short a number of regulars this week and appreciated the addition of former player Abbey Paten and experienced goaler Kylie Curnow in her first game for the club.
The game was a close battle for four quarters with the Seagulls able to grab a five-goal lead midway through the last quarter.
Orbost Snowy fought the game out but Lakes held on to get up by three.
Award winners: Brodee Bills and Monica Moorhouse.
“D” Grade
The “D” grade girls found it difficult to get any rhythm in their game for the first three quarters this week.
There were many turnovers and lapses in concentration, but to the girls credit they played a great last quarter gradually reducing Orbost Snowy’s lead and bringing the score back to even.
Unfortunately the Seagulls were unable to hold on and went down by a single goal in the dying minutes of the game.
Award winners: Jamieson Chester and Nicki James.
