NETBALL
“A” Grade
Lakes Entrance and Paynesville played out a closely fought contest with the goalies from both sides shooting accurately in the first half.
The Seagulls held the lead for most of the game until a late surge from Paynesville in the last quarter saw scores levelled with minimal time left on the clock.
Lakes was able to hold its nerve in the dying stages to get home by one goal in a great team effort.
Award winners: Cindy Beha and Lidia Thorpe-Somerville.
“B” Grade
The “B” graders got home by seven last week with youngster Tiarni Patten leading the way at goal shooter.
Chloe Watson and Deanne McKendry were tight in defence in the second half and with Marissa McKean steadying the team at wing defence the girls played some great netball to get the points on the board.
Award winners: Tiarni Patten and Marissa McKean.
“C” Grade
“C” Grade got off on the wrong foot and found it difficult to get back into the game against the Gulls.
It fought hard for four quarters but was unable to breach the gap set early by Paynesville, going down by eight goals.
Award winners: Sheree Isles and Julie Willison.
“C” Reserve
A great start from the “C” Reserve side saw it leading at half time, however a number of errors in the third saw Paynesville get back into the game and take the lead.
Lakes fought back in the last, levelling the scores with only seconds to go.
The final whistle saw scores at 21-all.
Award winners: Taylor Donnelly and Monica Moorhouse.
“D” Grade
The first half of this game was a messy affair with Lakes turning the ball over and missing goals, allowing Paynesville to take the lead.
Some changes to the line up saw a change in Lakes’ game with Tilly Richardson playing a great game in defence and Payton Bassett combining well with Clancy Donnelly in the goal circle.
The girls were able to turn the game around and get up by seven in a good win.
Award winners: Tilly Richardson, Payton Bassett and Clancy Donnelly.
