The Lakes Entrance “A” grade netballers took out a massive round nine East Gippsland netball win over Lindenow at the Cattery last Saturday, sending them a game clear on top of the ladder.
The Seagulls went into the game without two key defensive players in coach Lidia Thorpe and defender Meika Pitt, but were able to utilise “B” graders Marissa McKean and Chloe Watson.
Sam Beha caused many turnovers in defence and with midcourt players Jacquie James and Jemma Le Maitre working hard all game, Lakes was able to keep a steady supply to goalies Chrissy James and Cindy Beha.
Sigrid Dostine played strongly at wing defence and is showing improvement every week, helping Lakes to an 18-goal win.
Award winners were Sam Beha and Sigrid Dostine.
“B” GRADE
A much-improved “B” grade side got up by 15 goals against the Cats. Goal attack Jess Stevens led the way, playing her best game for the season so far, working well with youngster Tiarni Patten in the goal ring.
The team showed some strong defensive play across the court, causing turnovers, challenging Lindenow’s midcourt and goalies all game.
Award winners were Jess Stevens and Jae-Lee Greaves.
“C” GRADE
The Seagulls had the game under control from the beginning and never looked like being overtaken.
Katie Carstairs and Claudia Reggardo took full advantage of some great feeds from Lindy Bills and Meaghan Grandy who were unstoppable in the midcourt.
Coach Cherie Armistead was extremely pleased with the effort of her whole team in bringing home a 22-goal win.
Award winners were Meaghan Grandy and Lindy Bills.
“C” RESERVE
It was tough going against the ladder-leading Cats but the “C” Reserve side never gave up and all tried its hardest to match its
opponents.
Michalla Radford and Cherie Armistead swapped positions in the second half in a move that will give the team some more options in coming weeks.
Lindenow proved too experienced on the day, getting up by 20 goals.
Award winners were Penny Warren and Brodee Bills.
“D” GRADE
The young “D” graders faced a daunting task against a much taller opposition.
Although the girls tried everything in defence, they were unable to stem the flow into a very tall shooter who was accurate all game.
Nicki James did her best to lift the girls and played a great game at centre, as did Payton Bassett in goals. Lindenow ran out a comfortable winner.
Award winners were Nicki James and Payton Bassett.
