Lakes Entrance Football Netball Club’s 2011 East Gippsland Football Netball League season gets underway this Saturday against Paynesville at Paynesville.
The Seagulls are well prepared for a good season and are a big chance of going a couple of steps further than in 2010.
With Bairnsdale out of the equation, Lakes looks like battling it out for top honours with Lindenow and Wy Yung, who much the same as the Seagulls have lost a few key players to Bairnsdale but gained some classy youth and experience.
The Seagulls senior line-up will bare a similar resemblance to season 2010. 2010 best and fairest Nathan Pegler will captain the side for the second consecutive year and will again spark the midfield which will consist of Steven Battista, Rhys Hubbard and slick new recruit Shawn Clark who boast an impressive footballing resume at just 22 years of age.
Lakes has built on its already impressive ruck duo of James Beha (returning from a serious leg injury) and Xavier Ryan being joined by former Heyfield bigman Andrew Stevens who will be a vital cog in the Lakes Entrance side.
Tom Smith from Bairnsdale is another big recruit for Lakes but will miss the first few rounds with a foot injury.
Add to that the expected improvement out of the Seagulls younger class that got plenty of senior experience last season.
Brayden Radford, Jackson Dear, Callum Anketell and Daniel Zammit will get plenty of opportunity while Jesse Beha and Gippsland Power listed player Josh Scott are likely to get their first chance at senior level throughout the season.
On the netballing front the Seagulls welcome back Nephelle Watts and Deanne McKendry at the defensive end of the ‘A’ grade outfit while reigning league best and fairest Rhomi Webb will be looking to build on last season’s efforts as the team also look to go a couple of steps further in 2011.
All in all the Seagulls look well prepared to have a red hot crack at the top prizes in all grade of football and netball in season 2011.
