Round 4 - Alvie
Aim
Dismantle the Alvie Swans, on their ‘unique’ home turf.
Hypotheses
1. Super Sam, Skipper Mick and Cool Hand Luke will return, with bells on.
2. Twanger Whelan will grace us with his presence.
3. Jim of the Fancy Feet shall dance and dazzle.
4. The Doctor will shoot sharply.
5. All first year Sainters will be astounded upon entry to the Alvie Recreation Reserve (perhaps they should have been prepared, having negotiated the ‘brassiere tree’).
Apparatus
22 superior Saints
Tommy
The men in Orange
A basalt outcrop – sorry, should I say, a football oval.
Friesians on a hill side
A depleted opposition
Method
1. Enter at gate, remind oneself that ‘this is Alvie’.
2. Warm up at three q. time in the Ressies, remind self to stay clear of the ‘member’s wing’.
3. At bounce down, impose.
4. Continue to impose.
5. Remain ruthless.
6. Watch Super Sam flex.
7. Please, just get the ball to young Jim.
8. Sing loud and strong.
Results
1. Saints 42, Swans 1.
2. Saints 82, Swans 2.
3. Saints 125, Swans 11.
4. Saints 155, Swans 19.
Discussion
(consider these questions).
1. Could South Colac have coped with the Round 4 Saints?
2. How many options did we have in the forward half?
3. Was the Doctor’s first quarter ‘short pass’ from 25 out, indeed, intentional?
4. There are plenty of theories, but what is the fall of the Alvie Rec. Reserve?
Conclusion
We came, we saw, we conquered!
‘Till next time,
The Saintly Scribbler.
