19 & Under Distinction Award Winner 2002
Jess Ryan - Nyah Nyah West United
Jess Ryan commenced playing with the Nyah Nyah West United Netball Club in 1995 at the age of 10. Prior to this she played in the Swan Hill City & District Netball competition.
In 1995 Jess was a new player who offered to fill in when Junior teams were short and the following year found herself a regular in the Under 13’s team.
In 1997 she won the Under 13’s Best & Fairest award and was selected to represent the club in the CMNL Under 13 representative team.
Jess again represented the League in 1998, being voted Most Valuable Player for her team. She continued to play Under 13’s and was voted Club Best & Fairest for the season.
1999 saw Jess playing Under 15’s where she won the Club Best & Fairest award and was asked to fill in for the B Grade team. She played in the B Grade side that made it into the finals. On Saturday mornings she ran the Netta program, again represented the club at League level and attended the T.I.D. Camp.
In 2000 as a B Grade player Jess and her team made it into the Grand Final. She continued with the Netta program and began to Umpire home and away games for United. She was also a League representative player in 2000.
In season 2001 Jess was selected in the A Grade side and won the Coaches award for the season, playing in many positions on the court. She took on the arduous task of Coaching the Under 13’s team, having great results and developing the girls skills immensely. During 2001 Jess also managed to gain her C Grade Umpires Badge and was selected to attend the Umpires Academy. She played in the CMNL Under 17 representative team and in the Zone Championships.
This year Jess played A Grade and Coached the Under 15’s, with the team battling for a finals place. She received her Level 1 Coaches Certificate and continued to Umpire for the Club.
Jess is a popular club member and the Nyah Nyah West United Netball Club was proud to nominate her for the 19 & Under Distinction Award.
