St Kilda season gets better and better with young
backman Jarryn Geary named the AFL's NAB Rising Star nominee for round 8.
Geary impressed against Essendon on Sunday night, gathering 19 disposals as
the Saints continued their unbeaten start to the 2009 season with a 19-point
win over the Bombers.
The 20-year-old has played all eight matches this season, predominately across
the Saints half-backline and has averaged 18 possessions and booted five goals
for the year.
Geary gathered a career high 26 disposals and nine marks agaisnt St Kilda last
week to be among St Kilda's best players.
Hailing from Eaglehawk Football Club, he made his AFL debut in Round 1 last
year and played ten matches for the season.
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon said, Jarryn is an extremely hard worker and has been
a very consistent performer for the club this year. With continued hard work
and dedication to all aspects of his game, we hope to see Jarryn's already
promising development continue."
Geary was selected by St Kilda with pick 58 in the 2007 NAB AFL Rookie Draft
after taking out the Bendigo Pioneers Best and Fairest in 2006. He was elevated
to the primary list for the 2008 season after a strong year with Casey in the
VFL.
Geary is St Kilda's first NAB AFL Rising Star nominee since Sam Gilbert in
Round 16, 2007.
