Eaglehawk Write Up
Today we travel to Maryborough where we endeavour to do a repeat performance of last week at Canterbury Oval.
Anyone who was at any of the games in the Borough last week would have been thrilled with the results that all of our teams ended up with.
Well done to both our Netballers and Footballers.
The Under 18’s kicked their biggest score of the season last week on the way to a massive 178 point win over an undermanned Kyneton. Poor kicking for goal was the only downside to a good team effort. Riley McIvor playing his first game for the season after a couple of serious injuries kicked 6 goals and Jeremy Molloy 5. Awards went to Jeremy Molloy (Crapper’s Plumbing Service Award and the special hat award), Riley McIvor (John Cross Plumbing Service Award), Kenny Gamble, Michael Fitzgerald (Club Awards) Ryan Crameri (Paul West Award), Odin Rasmussen (Women Watching Football Award), Cody West and Dean Hartland (Ian Glanville Awards). The bike helmet for the best clanger went to Cody West who had his jumper on back the front.
The reserves continued on with good form winning their third in a row and turn at the halfway mark 6 & 3, improved again as a team and had an enjoyable afternoon with BBQ & beers, Better players were super boot Happy with two long range goals (St Clair award), Stat man Nissy with 5 goals 4 (Phil &Turtle award). Threlly continued his solid form in his third game back (Club award). Hardnut Thatch was aggressive at the contest all day (Stubbie holder & meal award). The final award went to Smithy with some good leadership down back then later in the middle gladly accepted the Lyn Saunders massage voucher which no doubt will be put to good use.
The seniors have been playing some good footy of late and were keen to again show that they are improving each week, in particular our starts to the game. A 10 goal first quarter against the Tigers was a definite improvement, and with 6, 11 & 14 from the next 3 respectively, a comfortable win was achieved.
What was particularly impressive was the straight kicking for goal and unselfish play from a number of players. It’s been a while since an Eaglehawk team has kicked 41 goals!
There were many good players on the day, but some standout contributors were again Matt Gretgrix with a career high 13 goals. Troy Coates had the ball on a string and finished with 9, whilst the on ball division led by Tim Hill in the ruck and Shane Davis and Josh Bowe at ground level were excellent.
Despite the good win the boys will quickly turn their focus to this weeks game and will be really determined to avenge their defeat by Maryborough in round 1 this year.
Other notes:
-Insurance companies are avoiding Eaglehawk players at all costs, especially after another incident after training a fortnight ago. Regular contributor to this column, Darcy Richards, wont be parking his pitch black coloured vehicle directly behind people anymore. Might also pay to look in your rear vision mirror Rabbit.
-Special mention to the 2's boys for their attempt at the 10 can challenge throughout the senior game last week, typically Reidy and T Saint did it in a canter. Special mention to wee man Cory Jacobs for getting well into the spirit of things following his audition as a backup dancer for Human Nature, what’s going on with his new hair cut?
-Also an apology for a mistake in last weeks edition, apparently Troy and Rach aren’t engaged yet. They would however like to thank the many well wishers for the calls and texts prior to it being revealing it was a hoax.
Our Borough Bonanza Draw kicked off last week. The lucky winners of the first of 5 draws were:
Winning the $600 was Greg Cohen
Taking home $200 was Ben Gregg
Tyson Findlay took home a $100
And Jointly Ray McLean and Trevor took home $100 Between them.
The next draw will be Round 11 then rounds 13, 16 and 17. Each draw gives you a chance to win $600, $200 and 2 x $100 draws.
