Eaglehawk Write Up
Thank you to all of our supporters that travelled across the bridge to Strathfieldsaye.
Today we are home to Gisborne. Let’s hope for a good day both on and off the field.
The Under 18’s were back on the winners list last week with a 22 point win over Strathfieldsaye. In what was a fantastic team performance, the best players were Kevin Archbold (Crapper’s Plumbing Service Award and the special hat award), Hayden White (John Cross Plumbing Service Award), Tom Harrington, Cal Harrington (Club Awards), Darryl Muns (Gavin Parkes Award), Nick Dower (Women Watching Football Award) and Billy Kenny (Paul West Award). The bike helmet for the best clanger went to Nick Dower for leaving his footy gear in Eaglehawk.
Thanks to the award donors.
A disappointing game for the reserves last week suffering their first loss of the year. Was not a great display as a team and certainly individual behavior like that is not needed in a team sport. Jaz Reilly was one who could hold his head high with a strong game up forward kicking 5 goals straight. Crapps took out Phil and Turtles award while Fergy got the John Cross plumbing award for some good defensive efforts. Deano was once again solid at full back and Paz and Tank also got awards. Another tough game against quality opposition this week and a chance for the boys to put their hand up and win back some respect.
The seniors recorded their second win for the year in what turned out to be a dogged affair. Strathfieldsaye had the early ascendancy, but our boys put together a more consistent 2nd quarter to hold a 5 point lead at half time. The second half contained more stoppages and contested footy as both teams began to tire. The boys proved they had the desire to win in the last quarter to outscore Strathfieldsaye 5 goals to 3 to run out winners by 8 points. As a spectacle it wasn’t pretty with the foot skills of our boys leaving a lot to be desired at times, but the endeavour was there and in the end that’s what got us over the line. Whilst it is fairly clear we aren’t playing the sort of footy expected a win is a win at the end of the day.
Better players were our new ruckman Tim Hill who provided plenty of drive in the ruck during the last quarter backing up his 3 solid quarters at centre half back. Balls Findlay who again provided run and skill through the midfield. Rabbit Ketterer whose attack on the footy and defensive work was again outstanding. Troy Coates showed his class with a match winning 4 goal performance. Luke Button had an absorbing battle in defence often holding a surging Strath at bay. Josh Bowe displayed his high workrate and endeavour playing an inspirational captains quarter in the last.
Other things of note:
-This Sunday we’re shearing Michael Coldwell as a fundraiser for the footy trip, this event promises to be a big money spinner with the coat he’s wearing around at present.
-Our thoughts are with Linno Jacobs after being stood up Friday night. Poor old Linno thought he’d landed a ‘belta’, only to find out the fine young filly had to cancel because she had to console her best mate who’d broken up with his girlfriend. Chin up little man, the tide will turn.
-The police have provided a media release informing us that an Eaglehawk player fell out of a tree in Bull Street on Saturday night, it’s understood that the branches of the tree were too flimsy for the man’s hulking frame and blonde hair.
