Mackie celebrates 200 games as a Lion!
Over the weekend, A Grade midcourt netball player Hayley Mackie become another player to reach a major milestone this year for the Sunbury Football Netball Club.
On Saturday (July 5) Hayley took the court for her 200th game, against the team Sunbury beat to become last year’s 2013 Ballarat Football Netball League premiers – North Ballarat City and were once again victories with a 22 point goal win.
As a Carlton supporter, Mackie was lucky enough to be acknowledged and presented her award by Carlton ruckman Matthew Kruezer. Kruezer attended a sponsor’s luncheon held by the club where he was the guest speaker.
Hayley started playing for the club as an under, at the age of 16-year-old in 1998. She missed a few years when she went travelling the world, and having a stint with the Macedon Football Netball Club.
She has been a stand out player at club level and within the Ballarat Football League. Some of her achievements include;
Life Member of the Sunbury Football Club
7 Best & Fairest Awards for the Sunbury Football Club
League Best & Fairest
Represented Ballarat 3 times
League Team of the Year Representative
2014 Premiership Winner
Hayley celebrated her double-ton against North Ballarat City by taking home the win and best on ground.
Lauren Gilchrist Celebrates 250 Games as a Lion
Lauren "Adams" Gilchrist celebrated 250 games as a Lion this weekend (June 7, Round 7 v Sebastopol)
Lozzie has stuck by this club like no other player... She has been there during the highest of highs & lowest if lows - making it one emotional roller coaster ride for her, that she wouldn't change for the world.
Not recovering like she used to, but still fitter than majority of the younger players out there, there's no sign of Lozzie hanging up the runners anytime soon....
Today was a really special and emotional day not only for Lauren & her family, but for the club & the league...
As a club we all helped Lozzie celebrate this great achievement by taking home the 6 out of the 7 wins.
An amazing job by Lauren and a great effort by all teams.
GO LIONS!!!
2013 Premiership Story
The Lions netball previously played finals in 2006 but went into a steady decline thereafter, culminating in six forfeited games in 2011. The team returned to the court for the entire 2012 season but still finished ninth with a three-win, 13-loss record.
A concerted recruiting effort in the 2013 off-season rebuilt the Lions A-grade outfit and formed an instant contender for that year's Ballarat Netball League premiership.
Kim Bailey was appointed the new A-grade coach in 2013 (one of four new appointments for all the grades).
Kim was quoted saying 'We're hoping to have a strong A-grade team and strength that filters down the grades’. Little did she know that she would coach the team to a premiership!
In Kim's first year as head coach of the Sunbury Netball club her team blew away North Ballarat City in the Ballarat Football Netball League A grade netball grand final, winning 58 to 32.
