Prior to the bye we headed to Melton South for the return leg of the local derby. The Unders recorded their third win for the season over an undermanned Panther’s team in a game that was reduced to 14 players a side under the League’s equal numbers policy. The goal kickers were wide spread, but John Bodge topped the list with a bag of 5 goals. Unfortunately, our Reserves boys went down by 14 points, two yellow cards late in the third quarter left us two players short and South were able to kick 4 goals in that time which was the difference between the two sides in the end. With inspirational skipper 'Pig' returning this week we can expect the Reserves to have one last crack at making the finals. The Seniors accounted for Melton South, with a very even contribution from the 22 boys who wore the Bloods jumper. Again, our accuracy in front of goal let us down and is something we will need address as we approach the business end of the season.
After a weekend to freshen up, we are looking forward to getting back into action against Sebastopol at home. The Burra’s took the honours in the Reserves and Senior games when we last met at Marty Busch Reserve at the end of June and we’ll be hoping for a better result back on our home deck this week. With Sebastopol not having an Under 18.5s side, we’ve got just the two games of footy with the Unders having another weekend off.
The Panthers Netballers were dominant in all grades, so not much joy in that department.
On a positive note, a good crowd turned up at the Q Lounge where Michelle and her team fed and watered the troops. Good reports all round.
Junior Senior Training night was held again last week with hundreds of junior footballers and Netballers swarming all over Maccy Park. Three boxes of sausages from Tasman Meats and bread from Bakers Delight kept them happy. Apart from someone forgetting the cordial, all went well. Thanks to all from both clubs who participated in the organising and running of this annual event.
