Xavier High School Oval, Fallon St Albury
Bring your best! Under 14's players are encouraged to improve and maintain their overall fitness throughout the playing season. Training is more fun when you are physically fit and can outrun your opponent on the field. More run-time - less-thumb time!
Parents should consult the coach and a fitness professional for a suitable program to complement club training.
On Training days parents are encouraged to stay at the ground during training and assist the coaches with equipment, ball retrieval, and group organizing. The more help, the more time your child will have a footy in their hands, improving their skills. It's also a great way to meet other parents and enjoy the camaraderie of our great club. Please help out where you can. Under 16's train after the 14's so please pick up your player promptly after training.
Team Captains
Team captains are selected by the coach. All players are encouraged to show their leadership qualities and work ethic throughout the season to be considered for a team leadership position. Leadership on the field does not depend on a formal title though and all players are expected to demonstrate a commitment to their teammates and good sportsmanship both on and off the field. Coaches may appoint one or more captains throughout the season as they see fit.
Team selection
Team selection is made by coaches and will consider training attendance, planned absences for representative football, any injuries, and with a view to giving registered players an equal opportunity for time on the field. This may mean players will be asked to sit out for certain games. Any absences for family or sporting commitments that are known at the start of the season should be communicated to team managers and coaches to ensure maximum participation opportunities for all players.
Coaches have the discretion to substitute and position players on game day if warranted by on-field behaviour or performance.
The night before game day
Playing your best means preparing the night before so that you are well-rested and ready to roar onto the field. Getting to bed at a reasonable time, having a good dinner, and making sure your footy boots and mouthguard are clean and ready are all good habits to help you have a great game. Check with your parents that all your playing gear is ready and you have warm clothes for after the game if it's cold.
Game Day
Players should arrive at the home or away ground at least one hour before the game in order to change, warm-up and get a rev-up from the coach. Players who require strapping may need to arrive earlier.
Players should arrive at grounds in club shirts and change into playing gear prior to running out.
Injuries/illness
Players who are injured or ill must advise their coach or team manager as soon as possible if they are unable to play in a forthcoming game.
Playing Up
From time to time, Under 14's players may be invited to play up a grade with the Under 16's. The invitation is strictly at the discretion of coaches of both teams and will only be extended in the interests of both developing the player and fielding the best available side for the match. The AWJFL rules will apply.
Access to change rooms
Pre-game: Players, coaches, support team and Rennie only. Parents and siblings, please avoid lingering in change rooms and discuss any game-related issues with coaches early on game day or at training. Parents who are not coaching or committee members with the appropriate working with children checks should not be in change rooms without a club official in attendance.
Post-game: Parents and supporters are welcome to join the post-game analysis, player awards, and (hopefully) many renditions of the club song! Please do not crowd doorways and make way for the coaches to enter the rooms in a timely way with the team.
The AWJFL has a policy of no cameras in change rooms/showers which should be strictly adhered to by all supporters of our club.
Supporters
Supporters are most welcome at St Pat's to encourage all players regardless of ability and demonstrate good sportsmanship to our junior members. A range of supporters merchandise is available to purchase from the club to help spread the Green and White. Supporters are encouraged to watch all age groups.
