Training
Training commences Wednesday 12 February 2021.
U16's Training is Wednesday and Fridays 5:30-6:45 pm
Xavier High School Oval, Fallon St Albury
Bring your best! Under 16's players are expected to improve and maintain their overall fitness so that training sessions can improve teamwork, ball skills and prepare the team for game day. Train hard, Play hard!
Players and parents should consult the coach and a fitness professional for a suitable program to complement club training.
On Training days parents are encouraged to stay at the ground during training and assist the coaches with equipment, ball retrieval, and group organising. The more help, the more time your son will have a footy in his hands, improving his skills. It's also a great way to meet other parents and enjoy the camaraderie of our great club. Please help out where you can. Please pick up your son promptly after training.
Team Captains
Team captains are appointed the coach who may consult club officials including the team. All players are encouraged to show their leadership qualities and work ethic throughout the season to be considered for a team leadership position. Leadership on the field does not depend on a formal title though and all players are expected to demonstrate commitment to their teammates and good sportsmanship on and off the filed. Coaches may appoint one or more captains throughout the season as they see fit.
Team selection
Team selection is made by coaches and will consider training attendance, planned absences for representative football, any injuries, and with a view to giving registered players an equal opportunity for time on the field. This may mean players will be asked to sit out for certain games. Any absences for family or sporting commitments that are known at the start of the season should be communicated to team managers and coaches.
Coaches have the absolute discretion to substitute players on game day if warranted by on-field behaviour or performance.
The night before game day
Under 16's players should ensure that they are adequately prepared and rested ready for giving their best on the field. Proper nutrition, sleep, and treatment or rest of any injuries should be attended to.
Footy boots, playing gear, protective equipment should all be packed and ready the night before, avoiding a mad panic and fights with your mother, which is not really good for your head game!
Game Day
Players must arrive at the home or away ground at least one hour before the game in order to change, warm-up and get a rev-up from the coach and captain. Players who require strapping may need to arrive earlier.
Players should arrive at grounds in club shirts and change into playing gear prior to running out.
Injuries/illness
Players who are injured or ill must advise their coach or team manager as soon as possible if they are unable to play in a forthcoming game.
Access to change rooms
Pre-game: Players, coaches, support team and Rennie only. Parents and siblings, please avoid lingering and discuss any game related issues with coaches early on game day or at training. Parents who are not coaching or committee members with the appropriate working with children checks should not be in change rooms without a club official in attendance.
Post-game: Parents and supporters are welcome to join the post-game analysis, player awards and (hopefully) many renditions of the club song! Please do not crowd doorways and make way for the coaching staff to enter the rooms in a timely way with the team.
The AWJFL has a policy of cameras in change rooms/showers which should be strictly adhered to by all supporters of our club.
Supporters
Supporters are most welcome at St Pat's to encourage all players regardless of ability and demonstrate good sportsmanship to our junior members. A range of supporters merchandise is available to purchase from the club to help spread the Green and White. Supporters are encouraged to watch all age groups.
