Established 1984
Our club had its foundations within the then burgeoning Hallett Cove, Trott Park, and Sheidow Park communities, when in 1984 a small group (with great foresight) incorprated a football club despite then only planning a club around an oval that was still in the very early planning stages. However despite such a basic hurdle, the Cove Football Club was underway.
The extent of the challenges at hand couldn't be more clear than to consider the first two seasons were actually undertaken without an oval, never lone clubrooms. Training one night a week at Morphett Vale thanks to that clubs endearing support (and a support that continues to be honoured each year in an annual rivalry), every game was an ‘away’ match as the development of the sporting ground continued to take shape. Eventually in early 1986 the ground was complete and the club finally had its own oval.
So from these limited foundations, the club has over the years grown to be one of the leading teams in the SFL, both on and off the field. 'A Grade' premierships of 1998 and 2008 are two of the highlights amongst a number of the successes the club has achieved throughout the many different senior and junior grades.
Reflecting Back..
Reflecting back on the clubs history is fitting at this point as it also gives an insight into our future.
In 2013 our founding club president way back then in 1984, Chris Galley, was honoured with induction into the Southern Football League "Hall of Fame". And despite all those years around the club, Chris continues to this day to be an integral part of the many young children that join our club as he continues in the role of Auskick Coordinator.
In 2014 we welcomed a "Cove old boy" back to the fold - David Earl was one of the players who helped establish our team, playing several games over our first two seasons between his playing commitments to South Adelaide in the SANFL. After many years of coaching success around the SFL, we are honoured to welcome Dave back to the club as our Senior Coach.
