Three out of 3 ain't bad - The day started with Jossy dropping off from the Seniors and allowing young Michael Tinkler his first taste of senior football. Well done Mick.
We jumped out of the gates firing in the first quarter going into the first break with a 16 point lead. In the second quarter we started to get a bit frustrated with a few decisions against us and let Moama back in, we finished at half time with only a 7 point lead. We went into our half time break with a little bit of work to do to finish off the last two quarters.
With some changes made in the third quarter we took control of the game and a great quarter by Matt Robertson booting some goals to set us up for a good last quarter. It was good to hear the siren at the end of the game with the boys looking very tired after a hard fought last quarter. The weather conditions had been creating an extra hurdle to get over as well as Moama having a good shot at us in the last.
With a couple of regular reserves players missing was always going to be a hard fought contest for us over at Moama. With only one player on the bench the team tried hard all day, we had a lot of the ball but the skill level and fitness didn't help, we need to try to get everyone on the training track together and we should finish off with a good season. Welcome back to David Trotman who played Under 14's as a junior for us and is now playing reserves. A great comeback game David.
Our Under 14's went to Moama with great enthusiasm. After a tight first quarter our boys played a good second quarter using the ball well and hitting targets when going forward. Full forward Harley was unlucky not to get a couple through the posts but we're sure as the year picks up, he will.
We played with great team spirit which we know will carry on through the season. We tackled hard and our shepherding was good, all players put in a solid effort and were rewarded with a few free kicks. Thanks Tex!
Our commitment for each quarter was great, with Bryce, Jess, Stephen and Billy all putting a score on the board. Will, Corey, Hugh and Harrison battled hard in the back line once again. Newcomer Josie Hyde copped a few knocks from her opponent but keep it going Josie, you're doing a great job. Ruckman Jesse Bunnett played strong winning a lot of the rucks around the ground.
We only went down by a couple of goals each quarter, so let's prepare well and train hard for this week's game.
All the best to Scott Baldwin who plays his 250th senior game today for the club. We wish you well Scott.
Congratulations to Tim Brunskill and Jacinta Volpe on the birth of your baby boy Chace last Thursday. Another footballer for the club down the track. I believe everyone is doing well. Look forward to seeing the three of you around the club.
We welcome Barooga to our facilities today. Hopefully we will come away with a few wins.
GO BLOODS!!
